Toying with the idea of getting a job, at least part time if not full time.

Wondering how Target and Lowes are to work for. How do they treat hourly employees? What kind of benefits?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I love working for my Lowe's!!!! I am willing to tell you anything I can, keep in mind each store is different due to managers. My two managers are the greatest I have ever had in any retail job!!!!

Do they provide any benefits to hourly employees?
401K?

I can only really tell you what they offer FT, as that is what I am. There is medical/dental/vision plans offered, all seperate. 401K, employee stock purchase plan, vacation, sick time, as well as many other things like Pre-paid legal adn much more that I am forgetting.

FT hourly is 39 hours a week. You need to request time off 30 days in advance, but have your hours three weeks out. Lowe's strives to have mostly FT workers, and my store is close to 90% FT, be it hourly or the specialists.

The only negative, for me, is the start time. When I open, it is either 5:30 or 6:00am, and some workers are there at 5:00am!! Overall, I love working here and my managers are awesome.

Each store has a HR perosn there, which is wonderful, as she/he can help you with any questions you may have.

If you are interested apply on-line or at the store on a computer there.

Don't all Lowe's stores have a bonus program that is dependent on how well the store does throughout the year? I seem to remember hearing something about that.

I worked for Target a couple of years back and I hated it the store I worked in had poor management they ended up letting several people go but they would wait until those people worked their shift then take them in after they clocked out and let them go ... :confused3 :confused3

several night I worked the night shift and we didn't get out until late some nights 11.00 our so the store had to be straight for the morning and everyone had to stay and help ...

Yes, I forgot about that! A store is ranked gold, silver, bronze ( or not at all)based on several factors, all customer service related. If a store is Gold for the quarter each worker in that store gets , I think, $125!!! My store just opened in November, so I am not sure on the exact amount, but it is close to that. Silver and Bronze gets money too, just lesser amounts. Then if the store averages Gold for the whole year, more money is awarded, and prizes are given.

DH was offered a supervisor job with Lowe's but he ended up declining. They wanted an answer NOW, which would have made him turn in his resignation to his old employer the next day. Lowe's didn't want to give him any time to think it over. The other negative (for us) was a 90 day waiting period for insurance. DH asked them if they would give him insurance after 30 days or give him a sign-on bonus to offset our COBRA expenses but they said no. It wasn't the right thing for DH, but my friend's DH works for them and LOVES it. He is full time, though.
