Of all the topics of this election, this was one of those I found most amusing. Whenever I brought up the subject to the other members of my crew (I'm an airline pilot at a regional subsidiary of a major airline, and almost always fly with people I've never met before), the response was nearly universal: given a product such as a laptop, with equal processors, equal RAM, equal features..., and one was $999 and made in China, and the other was $1299 and made in USA, almost all chose the cheaper one. Yet all agreed that outsourcing was a scourge on the American economy, and an overall majority accepted Sen. Kerry's argument, quite seriously, without irony. Even when pressed about when the last time someone in China flew our (domestic) airline, the most frequent argument was "That's what's best for me..." or "That's competition for you..." BTW, my airline has unionized pilots and flight attendants (the people I spend my time with on the road).
Does anyone else find this the least bit amusing (in a sad way)?
