Hey everyone!!!

Quick question to get everyones opinion...
I was laid off my job in early August and have been working my butt off searching for a job ever since that VERY day I was let-go!

Well fast forward to the most recent/promising job!:worship:
Heres the deal:

Its a travel company much like AAA they deal with Disney:yay: I want this job SOOO bad. The second I saw it posted on careerbuilder.com I sent my resume that very day it was posted(Thurs 9/10)--I also took the steps and went into apply in person with an application(Fri 9/11). That was a good move.. 1hr later, I got a phone call!! I was then scheduled for a small phone interview for Mon. 9/14! That went well..she then scheduled me for an in-person interview Mon 9/21...
That went GREAT! I loved everything I heard about the position ..its pretty much a travel agent! The hours/schedule is GREAT! Everything just went good!
A couple hours later I took the idea I saw on DisBoards here about sending a "thank you" for the interview. Well I sent it via email so it would get there immediately! It was short and sweet pretty much thanking her for the interview, it was a pleasure meeting her and that I would be a great addition to their team and a good fit for the position.
Well I got an email the same day.. Mon 9/21..
pretty much saying it was great meeting me too, and that its great I have a keen interest in the position.. she then said.. I will be in contact with you shortly.
Also I want to ADD .. would someone thats interested in me.. have me sit with an exisiting travel agent RIGHT after our interview.. after we had our interview she set me up with someone in the office to sit and "shadow" .. she also had me take a brief computer assesment test(breeze for me!)

That was Mon. 9/21.. its now 4pm Fri.9/25 and I heard nothing:confused3
I am SOO anxious and so excited you dont even know!!! I can not support or live on my unemployment, I do NOT want to be on unemployment, I want a good job! I want to be working!
This is something thats not only a job but something I LOVE! The travel industry!

Good news is: I'm not fighting for 1 position.. its serveral positions for the same role and training starts Oct 12!!!

I'm very very excited and nervous and my stress is HIGH! All I kept doing was staring at my phone all week since Monday and REALLY hoping by today I get a call.

If she said that she'd contact me shortly--what does that mean to you?
Since I emailed her a thank you on Mon. 9/21 .. when would it be appropriate to contact her.. Mon 9/28 or Tues 9/29? Should I contact her by calling her work phone # or email? She did by the way .. GIVE me her business card after the interview.

I have all the qualifcations and EVEN more and a huge plus is my travel experience esp. with Disney. So its great I have everyhting they are looking for and more! My background is CLEAR as crystal, I have nothing at all on my record, not even a ticket!!

So what to do what to do?!!:confused3
In today's times its 10X rougher... my stress is so high and i'm very anxious.. I was hoping to get the call today so I could take a HUGE sigh of relief and relax this weekend.. now I won't be able to:guilty:

Any thoughts!?
I would appreciate it.. thanks so much everyone!:goodvibes

Whatever you do, do not call or email again. You don't want to seem to pushy or anything. Just let things fall where they will fall. I'm sure this woman has more to do than just email back and forth with you, so just give her a chance. Good luck!!!!!! Sounds like a great job!

Thank you! I appreciate your advice.. that is why I wanted to post for peoples opinion.. I definitley like you mentioned do NOT want to come across pushy.. thats the last thing I want to do.

I know this woman has more to do than email me :) hehe.. but what I was trying to say was that I sent her a "thank you" email hours after the interview, again a suggestion I took from a thread that was started about a thank-you being sent after an interview and how alot of people had GREAT responses with that including getting their job.

I will definitley give her a chance thats no problem at all... its just she said she'd contact me shortly.. that was Mon. 9/21.. its now Fri. 9/25. I was thinking she meant this week??

I'm sorry to sound so anxious.. I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about but in todays economy .. its ROUGH.. its killing me.. I am not getting enough $$ from Unemployment to support myself, pay my bills etc. Its stressful!

Like I said I'm a HARD worker and I want a GOOD job that I also would love.. I mean not everyone has to LOVE their job.. but I want to at least have a interest in what I'm doing:)

Again thank you so much! Everyones opinions are greatly appreciated!

First of all, congratulations on a good interview and I really hope you get the job. I think that is find to contact the interviewer late next week if you don't hear anything. Just say that you were curious if any decisions have been made yet in the positions.

Good Luck!!

Thank you very much!:goodvibes Yeah its REAL tough.. I'm hoping it wont come down to me having to contact her--not that I care.. its just I hope everything stays positive and I get the "good news call!"

I'm also prob. stressed and upset too because after patiently waiting about a year or so since my boyfriend and I planned our October-Nov. 09' Disney Vaca. we had to cancel:( Of course we had insurance and our reasons were because of the economy.. good thing we did.
Its just so sad.. we were suppose to go Oct. 29-Nov.5.. we were soo excited.. our 3 year anniversary and my 24th bday! Its all good we have the rest of our lives to go to Disney.. its just upsetting:(

Its also good too because this job has a 10-12 week training starting Oct. 12th.. so good thing we werent going to WDW afterall.. hopefully thats a sign!! So yeah ill be in training til end of December... thats definitley fine by me:):):thumbsup2

I wish you the best of luck but I agree that you shouldn't contact them until mid-week next week.

It could be that she's planning on hiring you but has a project to tend to first. Or, they could be interviewing several more people since you said they have more than one slot open.

Thank you very much! hmm.. your right.. I was one of the first people to apply/interview.. the start of the bunch.. hopefully thats good-like you said she probably had interviews rolling all the way until today-Friday..because mine was Monday! But yeah its more than 1 position which is great..

I agree w/ this. I usually hire for about 6 positions a year for our company. From the hiring/interviewing standpoint I'll make my comments.

First, I actually don't like the thank you notes. Not knocking it, I used to send them when I was looking. However, from the hiring standpoint I actually find them tacky now. Sorry it's harsh, just being honest.

Also, if someone hounds me w/ phone calls or emails. I lose any interest I did have in them. I know it's hard to have patience, I've been there w/ jobs I've desperately wanted. However from the employers standpoint, if I'm interested and I want to hire you--- I WILL call you. However, it will be on my timetable.

I find it to be so different on this side of the table and it's opened my eyes to the things I did or didn't do when seeking a job.

The things that get my attention from a potential candidate:
-Arrive 15 minutes early
-Dress neatly
-Maintain good eye contact during an interview (it really turns me off when someone won't look at me).
-Good easy-flowing conversation (when I can usually connect w/ an interviewee on a topic it really gives them an edge)
-It is actually okay to have no questions, 1-2 questions at the end is okay too. However, creating silly off the wall questions to try to impress me is actually annoying
-Asking when I will be making a decision by is okay and I try to be as accurate as possible, however making numerous phone calls after "because you haven't heard anything" is an annoyance.
-I really like it when the candidate shows interest or enthusiasm about the job I'm hiring for too.

These are things that made me cross someone off my list once they've made it to my short list:
-Telling me at the end of the interview that "you will be calling me, because you'll find nobody better than me". Ummmm... I love confidence, but this one came across as cocky.
-Asking me to give a detailed explanation of how to call in sick. Not really appropriate for a job interview question.
-Calling me daily to see if I made up my mind. It might be just me but it really annoys me.
-Telling me your goal is to have my job.
A few other good things I've come across and they didn't even make it to the short list but left me shaking my head:
-Coming in your pajamas
-Arriving to the interview w/ 4 kids in tow
-No showing and then calling the next day to reschedule because you overslept.

First off thank you so much! I enjoyed your posting.. heres some feedback to what you said:
-No problem about your opinion about the thank you notes.. I understand what your saying.. but I wrote mine VERY brief..ALSO because at the end of the interview she had me sit with a travel agent and shadow.. once I was done watching listening for about 15 minutes I was told I could just leave etc. So I didn't get to see the person who interviewed me after the shawdow.. I thought sending this thank you email as well showed her "i like what i saw" kinda thing:)
-I actually did arrive 15minutes early.. I also do that no matter what... my interview was 10am.. I got there at 9:45.. in fact I didn't get called in until about 10:10-10:15am.
-I dressed very nicely. and not like fake and over-done like I've seen people... I wore black career-dress pants..a nice blue blouse and a black suit/jacket..
-I did make good eyecontact I think.. :) hehe
-Honestly this was one of the few interviews I didnt really have questions at the end.. she explained everything pretty nicely to me.. that it pretty much answered all my questions.. in fact I felt weird because I felt like I needed to ask questions lol..
-I definitley showed great interest in the position.. tellinng her my love for travel, having worked for the Walt Disney Company..been to Disney 100's of times, traveled on the Disney Cruise Line to Caribbean and beyond etc.
-I did not actually ask for when a deceision would be made.. partly because she said training would begin Oct. 12..so I thought hmm.. definitley soon--also in the career AD they said immediate openings..

I have to tell you I dont think I laughed so hard before:rotfl: reading what you have experienced .. I NEVER ever in a million years would I do things such as :
my goal is to have YOUR job
coming in with kids( i dont have a kid.. well my kid is my dog. haha !)
OMG sleeping in and then calling to reschedule.. WOW!?!?:lmao: thats the killer one there
PJ's!? coming to an interview in PJ's!?!?!:rotfl:

Thank you so much for your post.. i got a good insight from the other way around:):)

Just an FYI, I have been through several rounds of interviews over the span of 2 months already for a position and each time they said "shortly," it took 2+ weeks!!! People are busy, they are likely interviewing other people, too - I'd say wait until the beginning of oct to follow up (at least) asking if a decision has been made or if they need any additional application materials from you and reiterate your interest if you haven't heard by then. Good luck!

Hi! Thanks for your advice:)
LOL shortly=2weeks! ahh! lol i'm sooo antsy about this.. no but I see what your saying:)

What is good about this is that training starts Oct. 12th.. so I'm hoping i'll hear sooner!

Have you had any luck w/ your job interviews where they said they would be in contact w/ you shortly?

My DH is in your shoes right now. It's killing him and he has finally listened to me and backed off of contacting her ... it's for a sales position so maybe contact to "close the deal" is a little easier handled because it shows his skills as a sales person but I have made him back off ...

The kicker for him is that he was made a verbal offer, told it will take 3 weeks for the paper offer to follow and it has now been 3.5 weeks. The VP of the division has resigned and there is now a problem with getting the job submitted .... though it was already approved financially through the ranks.

ANNOYING as all get out ... it's great money too. He is searching for other jobs in the mean time and has two other oppurtunities to continue one with but this is the one we want.

Good Luck ...

and good luck, please report back so we can do the happy dance with you when post your new start date:)

aww! first off GOOD LUCK for your DH!:thumbsup2

Yeah its bad.. its definitley the WORST feeling waiting like this:guilty:
like I said I wish they would have called me by TODAY! :) I would have been able to relax and not worry like I have been 24/7 ALL weekend.. it would have been a GREAT relief.. now all I can hope for is Monday.. or anytime next week.. again training is 10/12.. im sure they would want to send me for the usual drug test(nooo problem!) etc. So i'm hoping to hear good news.. again I think I was one of the VERY first people.. thats why i think I feel like I'm waitinng..:confused3

and good luck, please report back so we can do the happy dance with you when post your new start date:)

awww thank you soo much!:goodvibes I SURE WILL! it will be the biggest boldest print of a posting you will ever see on the Disboards lol:rotfl:

But thanks yeah! I want to continue to get anyones opinions so I will cont' to keep checking my thread.. and all weekend esp. to Monday where I hope I get the good news! But yes I will definitley update.. so we can do a CASE CLOSE for this thread lol

Also as I'm stressing here.. :scared1: im racking my brain for anything..

do you think its quite possible that there might be an "OFFER LETTER" being sent through the mail.. and if so.. would I see the offer letter before hearing an offer via phone etc? hmm..[/FONT]

I have never been in the position of hiring anyone so who knows what's really going on.... but my best guess would be that since they put the ad out on 9/10....

9/14 was the week of taking in most applications with phone interviews.
9/21 was the week of maybe taking in more applications / phone interviews, and starting the most important in-person interviews.

I would guess that NEXT week (maybe even by the end of the week as I would think they might still be interviewing folks?) is when they'll be making their decisions on who they're going to hire so I honestly wouldn't worry to much about it (easier said than done, I know, I've been there!).

From the sounds of it, the two of you "connected" during your interview as if you didn't, why would 1. she bother having you "shadow" someone and 2. she bother emailing you back after your thank you note?!? I think that if she didn't feel you were right for the job, she would have shook your hand at the end of the interview and thanked you for coming in.

I wouldn't consider it being pushy, but if I were in your position, I might give her a quick follow-up call maybe late on Wed. or Thurs. of next week?

Whatever happens..... good luck with this job, or good luck in whatever job you may have in the future!

Yes...I have been getting additional rounds of interviews but it's really nervewracking and I'm not used to the lag time. Good luck!

First off, I wanted to say GOOD LUCK! You sound so excited about this position and I really hope it works out for you! :)

I've had to wait AGES in the past and I know the feeling! I was told in one jobs that I would be called "within two weeks" one way or the other. Every time the phone rang I jumped! It was beyond stressful! Well, two weeks went by and nothing...I debated and debated about calling them, but thankfully the next day they called me and offered me the job! So try not to worry too much - it sounds like you did everything right!

I'm not loving my job right now, and in the process of applying for new things...just applied for a job today that was PERFECT for me so now I'm waiting too!
