Does anyone think it is a waste of time and money to keep searching for Jimmy Hoffa? I was watching the news and they are still searching some farm in the mid-west. WHO CARES!! Obviously he is long dead and why do we need to find him at some huge cost. Put the money into something worthwhile.

I suspect the reason for the continue search isn't being shared with the public, and therefore it would be rather unlikely for any of us to know whether it is worth the time and money to keep searching.

I agree. I mean, in the grand scheme of things does it REALLY matter if he's found??

The search is about 20 minutes from my house.............I feel badly for the poor guy whose barn & farm they're tearing up.

Wow we seem to be butting heads all over the boards today. Let me just say I am NOT picking on you. LOL What the heck do they think they are going to find on a body that has decomposed for this long a period?

Maybe.

Nah. I just don't buy-into casual pot-shots. (In this case, at the FBI.)

Who knows?

(The FBI knows.)

::yes:: ITA I don't think discovering his body could lead to anything meaningful. The FBI should leave him alone. Business is business, know what I mean ;)

I'm sure his family would disagree. I would care if it was my father, my brother, my uncle no matter how much time had passed and I'm sure you would too. Just because it happened a long time ago doesn't make it any less insignificant.

I was just saying this to DH yesterday. Hoffa is dead, and whomever killed him is likely dead, too (the 93-year-old who is a suspect is currently in prison on other charges). Why does the FBI continue spending millions trying to find his body?

I think they need to be working harder on the current state of organized crime. I think this is just a way to try to get publicity for the FBI (kinda like the proscecution of Martha Stewart was primarily for boosting the prosecuter's career).

So true... I have a question for those who think the case should be dropped.... Since you seem to think you know better that law inforcement agencies, just how long should an open case be allowed to stay open?

How do you know that this search isn't relevant to "working harder on the current state of organized crime"? Beyond that, what makes you think that getting "publicity for the FBI" doesn't foster the FBI's ability to improve their ability to address "the current state of organized crime"? Second-guessing is fun, I know, but it is still second-guessing, isn't it?

I understand as an organized crime case, there isn't a statute of limitation so the case remains open.

I do feel for the farm owner. Does the FBI pay to rebuild the farm buildings they are destroying?

even if it weren't organized crime related, there isn't a statute of limitations on murder.

I was in Ann Arbor on business when this latest search broke out. Boy, it sure was ALL over the news. When I got back home to MD, it seems like it had barely been a news item and I haven't heard hide nor hare of it since.

As Dsis and I sat watching this on the news I mentioned the same thing. If it was my farm I'd be very upset. Hopefully they will find something to help justify the damage they have done.

This event appears to be BREAKING news here :rolleyes1 . The news people kept breaking in during my soap and running the little scrolly at the bottom of the screen. Susan

I watched an interview on CNN recently and yes the farmer will be compensated for the destruction of his land and paid for whatever his time is worth while he can't farm his land. It may or may not be to the exact dime he paid for and spent for stuff but at least he will be compensated.

The local businesses in ****ord are making money on this story. There are T-shirts with "FBI is digging ****ord" there is a bakery making cupcakes with a hands and feet coming out of the frosting.

and what will the FBI find out if they find his "body/bones"... that he's actually dead?????

It may be selfish of me but I glad they are looking and I hope that this farm turns out to be the spot and this mystery can finally end. I'm a history buff and like it or not Hoffa was an important part of American history in the 50's and 60's. The stuff he was involved in and part of is facinating and all of the myths that surround his death just add more to Hoffa legacy. Jimmy Hoffa was doing deals with mobsters, politicians, celebrities, and the list goes on. The shady loans that were made with the Teamsters pension fund is incredible and how they got away with that fraud is amazing. A lot of money went into Mob owned casinos in the late 50's early 60's like the Sands and Dunes hotels.

This farm sounds like the most logical choice in where the Mob stashed the body. It was only 25 minutes from the restaurant where Hoffa was waiting and was owned by a Teamster offical. If you commit a crime like murder, the last thing you want to do is have a body in the trunk of your car going across country. The popular myth is that he was burried in Giants stadium or a Las Vegas casino parking lot. Way too risky and unlikey at that.

I hope that they find his body at this farm and his family can have peace of mind, finally.

Well, we could go round and round on this forever. What makes you think the FBI is doing a good job and should spend millions to find Hoffa's body? What makes you think that this digging spree is more for crime investigation purposes than empire-building? What makes you think the FBI couldn'thave stopped organized crime in the 50s and 60s if that had really been a priority?? Seems to me that the FBI was too busy investigating Martin Luther King, gays, etc. to really go after organized crime during that era.
