Everytime I stay at a Disney resort, I read the sign that explains the concept of "environmentality". The idea of re-using towels and sleeping on bed linens days at a time seems reasonable.

Although sometimes I wonder if it is more of a cost-cutting manuver rather than a good faith effort to save the environment. I have seen many other ways that Disney could recycle yet I don't see a lot of initiative.

Has anyone seen other ways Disney is being responsible to the environment in the resorts or parks?

No, I dont think it is just for cost cutting. The Disney resorts have been given awards for their enviromentality.

Actually, we have taken the Keys ot the Kingdom tour at the MK a couple of times, and they go through a lot of ways that Disney recycles etc. behind the scenes.

Like the people they hire to specifically go through each bag of garbage and remove the recyclables.

:crazy2:

God bless the people that do that!

I had no idea they paid people to sort garbage for recyclables??!!

I have a disneyworld trivia book and they recycle EVERYTHING! I even think they have people going through the garbage to seperate the recycables.

You learn all kinds of fascinating tidbits on the keys to the kingdom tour! :)

As well as that WDW Trivia Book. Best $13 I ever spent. Well, as far as WDW is concerned, anyway! :)

I dread saying anything negative about Disney yet I was concerned and confused during our trip last week as to why there is no recycling "bins" in the resorts, food courts, parks and so on. There was one by the pool where you could seperate trash, plastic & glass yet that was the only one I could find the entire week! Can you imagine just the number of plastic water bottles discarded each year at Disney?! WOW! :earseek:

oops! Did not read the above post about CM sorting recycling stuff before I posted.

THe Reedy Creek Improvement District encompasses 25,000 acres in the heart of Central Florida and is the home of Walt Disney World.
The goal of the District is to provide effective and efficient services to the public and our taxpayers.

This information was In an article I read about the Reedy Creek District :

Mosquito Control at WDW
WDW also monitors mosquito populations and arbovirus activity and directing mosquito control operations within the District. Mosquitoes are collected, counted and identified by species weekly form 70 different sites. Additionally, a representative sample of mosquitoes are dissected to determine their age and thereby identify their ability to transmit disease. The District chouses sentinel chicken flocks. The chickens are tested weekly throughout the year for the presence of antibodies to mosquito-borne viruses. The test results help define mosquito control activities such as spray frequencies and type of treatment applied. This program has been highly successful in minimizing concerns that could substantially affect the public.

Just another case of Dksney Magic in action. We are there on vacation. Dianey wants us all to leave the real world behind when we enter their property. The behind the scenes recycling is just one more piece of the Magic.

I know I'm not answering your question - but I was just wondering why this was titled Jimminy Cricket in my Room?

I think Jiminy Cricket is on the little card in the bathroon that suggests you re use your towels and such.

:goodvibes I was just about to suggest throwing a shoe at it to keep it from waking you up...I just knew they'd had a rogue cricket chirping all night! :) Those are the worst!
I'm fine with the conservation tactics...gee, if my sheets were changed once a week I'd be THRILLED! With 3 kids under 10 and running all around all week...we usually get to it 2x a month...whew! makes me feel better knowing I'm conserving and not just lax! :)

LOL
I actually wouldn't mind extra bins next to one another for recycling purposes... most people would throw things in the right bin if clearly labelled, wouldn't they? Then they could save the money on the people digging through trash for recycling and oh... maybe pay the other employees more? Then maybe the CMs would have even MORE magic that IS NOT behind the scenes. LOL

Jiminy says... "Always let your conscience be your guide". That might be why they put him on the sign asking if you will reuse your towels to save the environment....

I always find a special green wastebasket in my room for recyclables, and even in Fort Wilderness there are locations in each loop to recycle.

Where we live, the green box is to recycle paper products and a blue box is for glass and plastic. Should I put all my recyclables into the box in my room?

I used the Jiminy Cricket line because he is the character associated with Disney's recycling/environmentality program.

I've noticed that Jiminy is always the "character of authority" in the Disney marketing campaigns. Jiminy also tells us to "lock our cars" and not to leave pets inside our vehicles with the windows up.

I think he is also on the recycle bins???

I think I am misspelling Jiminy??? or is it Jimminy???

And to think I'm a teacher that berates students for not using spell-checker!
