I downloaded some episodes from Jim Hill's podcast. Is anyone familiar with this guy? I get the feeling that he is a hugh BS artist. He seems to know more about Disney's plans than Disney itself. He's got a quick answer for everything Disney. I don't know.... it's just my BS(dar) was sounding off loud and clear that this guy is full of it!::yes::

Jim was once a trusted insider. Now not so much he just seems to spill every rumor he hears. And with that he doesn't get much right therefore losing some of his credibility. Ive also heard things about him not being on good terms with Disney like I think he might be banned from WDW at least I have heard things like that. I listen to his podcasts as well but don't believe everything he says.

I enjoy his podcasts with Len Testa. He sounds like a bit of a huckster and he has, ummmmm, some, you know, ummmmmm, you know, annoying verbal ticks ... but he hasn't triggered my B.S. detector.

I don't remember what his predictions are or check up on his facts or anything, but it sounds to me like he watches what's going on at Disney and Universal pretty closely. He also seems to have at least a couple of friends or informants inside the company who feed him info. And he usually carefully qualifies the information to differentiate between facts, or rather "apparent done deals", as opposed to rumors and wishful thinking.

He seems to have a pretty good and well-reasoned grasp of the fundamental business reasons behind many of the twists and turns that Disney takes, and also a pretty good grasp of the company's history - at least, a better grasp than little old me!

The fact that Len Testa goes to him on a regular basis for "inside dope" and historical background is good reference for Jim. Being the co-author of a best-selling guidebook for many years, Len would certainly know by now if he was being hustled or not.

I haven't listened to more than a handful of Disney-related podcasts (WDWToday, WDWRadio, WEDway, DisUnplugged) but overall I rate the Disney Dish podcast as best-in-class for people who are interested in more arcane, inside and somewhat speculative and "way out there" information about the Disney corporation and theme parks in general.

The only problem with Jim is that he reports everything he hears. And as we all know, just because there are PLANS for something doesn't mean they'll happen. Only about 10% ever do. But he's still worth listening to because 1) he's not making anything up and 2) It's cool to hear what *could*/*could have* been.

Weeelllll.....this is where it gets interesting......

I thoroughly enjoy listening to Jim talk about rumors, etc., if only because they at least let us know that things are brewing in one area of the company or another, regardless of whether it turns out exactly as he suggests. For example, he did a podcast last year (2013) about the new Star Wars area at DHS...but with Iger recently saying they would announce the Star Wars plans next year (2015), I can't imagine that the specific rides/attractions Jim discussed will turn out exactly the same. Even so, it was great just to hear what the folks inside Disney are at least discussing and considering. He seems to have a nice grasp on things that have happened in the past and why/how they happened. At a bare minimum, it's fun to hear what he has to say.

Yeah, Jim Hill has been around for YEARS. His stories of what's going on may or may not come true, but I would say about 5 % of what he ever talks about will come to fruition. It seems like he does hear some sort of inside information, but it is clearly not coming from anyone that makes decisions. Take it as entertainment but don't take it as gospel.

Which makes him well within the margin of error and essentially useless

I wouldn't say useless at all. At the very least, it shows that Disney Imagineers are still very much the creative geniuses that we all say the UO engineers are. It's just that Disney's executives are too tight with money to let them shine.

Well that's not hard to realize. Plus a lot of UO people were once disney people.

His works on Disney park history (western river, Westcot) are very well done imo. When it comes to current info he's hit or miss at best

Any idiot can spin an elaborate story of fiction, claim unnamed sources, then claim it was "shelved" for a million unverifiable reasons.

There are websites who are one trick ponies...and that's the trick.

Hill has become a huckster.

And...WDI seems like a bunch of loose lipped egomaniacs...fighting a press war with the accountants to get funding

Guess who's gonna win?

Jim Hill throws a lot of stuff against the wall and hopes something sticks. Even a broken clock is correct twice a day. I really can't take anything that comes from him seriously.

... Which is why this is for idol discussion, opinion, and facts/history - not as a predictor of future truth.

Exactly how one should view/listen to Jim Hill.

He's not just making stuff up. He's clearly got sources better than bus drivers. But one shouldn't expect every report to be a projection of anything concrete.

If his stories were pure works of fiction, I would think that Disney would pressure Huffington Post to drop him.

I suspect he might be a trusted means of leaking 'trial balloons'. A few WDI insiders will feed him something to report, and then WDI will figure out what will and won't work based on the reaction to the rumor.

I would guess some loose lips from low levels inside WDI... Perhaps.

If one thing is abundantly clear - it's that WDI has little if any input into the budget process. So Disney "bouncing ideas" around to see what works would seem irrelevant

Look at us... What really with any legitimate effort would we not accept at this point?

I heard that he is friends with Tom Fitzgerald.

But...Tom
Fitzgerald has no control over the books...which means he's suspect for
Spitballing as well.

You know what they say when you want to find the truth? "Follow the money"
