I'm just starting on chapter 3 and I feel like I've read a whole book already. It's so good so far. I can honestly say - I can't wait till I finish.

It's not like any diet book I've read so far. Now we will see what I think when I finish it, but so far I'm captivated and holding on to each word.

Anyone else reading it? If there is anyone else out there, I'd love to discuss.

I am not, but interested in your review. I think it is something I will look to get.

ETA, I just checked my library web site and it is not carried there. I did find it listed on Amazon, just not ready to purchase yet. Will have to check half price books.

I love jillian and may pick it up one of these days. I really enjoy her radio show. For anyone who doesnt know, she does a radio show every sunday, it gets uploaded to itunes every week as well.

search KFI, then pick podcasts and its under the SUNDAY show listings. Unfortunately you cant subscribe to just her podcast, you get all the sunday shows so you just have to remember to snag it every monday. that is if you want it via itunes.

Melanie,
Let me know what you think about the book.I read her last book and did not like it.Read Bob's and loved it.A review from you would be great.

Linda

Can you tell me how this book is different than her last book?

Thanks,

Dawn

It's on my wish list. I'm doing her 30-Day Shred right now.

On chapter 5 now. It's totally different. Just getting to the plan now, so far most of it has been about hormones, what food, pesticides and other environmental toxins do to your endocrine system.

I'll give a full report when I'm done.

I'm going to have to go to the library & see if they have it. I just love her- I know that if I had her screaming in my face everyday I could 20 pds!

You can read the reviews of her books and DVD's on Amazon. Her book sounds quite interesting, although I'm not sure I'm ready to start eating organic foods.

my copy arrived today, picked it up as well as her winning by losing book. I am definitely interested in the book, she has been talking about it on her podcast the last couple of weeks

I would be ineterested in your final review, too.

If anyone really wants to feel bad about what they eat, check out Skinny B***h by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin. I am a vegetarian, and I still had guilt after reading this. Not that I'm calling their validity into question, but if every single thing they write is true, then yikes! Paraphrasing them, we should all be disease ridden and either sickly or dead. :scared1:

which Jillian book are we comparing too? I have Making the Cut with plans to follow the 4 week plan with a co-worker

I would love to know too... She was on the today show last week and I only caught 1/2 of it.

Hey everyone - Sorry I've been MIA.

Molli - Her first book was Winning by Losing (Red), 2nd was Making the Cut (Black/Blue green). Per her explanations in her podcasts: Winning by losing is for people with a lot to lose and Making the Cut is for the last 10 pounds or that special occasion (much harder). I've read bits and pieces of both and never really finished them straight throuh.

I listen to Jillian's podcasts. I have for years and I've seen her evolve over time. I remember when I first started listening to her, it would drive me batty to see her recommend artificial sweetners. I've seen her evolve to learn that artificial sweetners are not good for you, and now she is experimenting with veganism (something she swore to her listeners not so long ago wasn't good for you). This last part has me a little confused. I also hate seeing her do those trainer tips on BL where she endorses something I know she doesn't believe in.

I've

I did finish reading it and here are my thoughts.

Great book with lots of great information. Very informative, easy to read (I swear you can hear Jillian talk through it (if you listen to her podcasts - its easy to hear her in the book).

But........this plan (if your wanting to follow a plan) is not for everyone. For me this is fine, because I eat clean and organic. This IS how I eat. I eat clean and follow the Clean Eat Diet. I follow these guidelines including getting the pollutants out of my environment. Last October I gave up pain medications based on information I had heard in Jillian's podcasts (and despite thinking I could never not have pain meds during my "time of month or a headache" I was wrong. It's been easier than I ever thought possible and I'm 7 months pain med free). So for me, this plan is exactly what I hopped she would come out with. I eat about 80% organic as it is, and strive to make most everything I eat organic. I use natural lotions (no parabens and all natural plant products), deoderants, toothpastes, etc. This is a work in progress and I'm constantly working to find products to replace things I used. For years I worked on getting my food all-natural and then organic. Then came the products.

As much as I think this is fabulous information, I wouldn't want anyone to read this and then be dissapointed in the fact that the plan is pretty much about going organic and getting pollutents out of your diet and products you use. If your ok reading a great informational read for learning (I love to read all kinds of health books even if I don't use all the information), then good. I just want you to know what it isn't. It's not a mainstream diet book that the masses will take to. Most people don't want to go this extreme.

Hopefully this is helpful. All that being said - I loved the book and there was so much interesting information.

Melanie- I mostly agree with you about this book. In fact, in the front of the book, Jillian says she would of liked to name it- The Evolution of a Fitness Guru. For myself, I was looking for a book that would compile all the toxic elements I should avoid together. I found that in this.

While I'm planning on gradually applying everything, there are some immediate changes I was able to make. I really enjoyed reading this book. I agree, it's not a "diet" or "exercise" book.

ETA- also, have you found any natural alternatives to pain meds that work? I'm suffering through this week, iykwim.

Hi Stacey - I'm with you - I couldn't put this book down. Hands down this is the book I've been waiting my whole life to read - its exactly what I have wanted to read about when I read all the diet books and health books I have read. It follows my beliefs that I have been working for since the early 2000's. It was a slow evolution, but a path that I took none the less.

Most books I read about diets, I see at least a few things that I go - OK, pretty good, but just doesn't follow my beliefs. (Oprah's trainer Bob Green's first book was the first book that blew my socks off and actually caused me to go more down this path than anything- then his subsequent books led him on a path of "Money" and his message changed to where he now promotes foods that to me aren't really healthy - but are processed foods. I don't want diet food - I want real food I cook myself with real natural ingredients (basically the way mother nature gave them to us).

The book I follow now is the Eat Clean diet - Pretty much exactly how my beliefs are and I love it.

This book of Jillians is pretty much the same, but I love how she really brings the things you should avoid into it too. There is much in this book - that it's almost not even about a diet.

One thing on this week's Biggest Loser that drove me batty - this is what I'm talking about above when I talk about her doing little trainer tips or other promo's for products in a segment that goes against what I know she believes in. The contestants were using these plastic zip loc type bags that you steam and cook in the microwave. They were cooking chicken and other things in them. This goes againts what Jillian wrote in this new book? I wish she wouldn't do segments like this -its such a wrong message. I also read and hear her say she gives them all organic food, etc. When I see some of the foods like sugar free jello or pudding - I want to scream. Jillian doesn't believe in that - And I'm pretty sure Bob doesn't either. Ok - off my rant, lol.

For the last part of the question. I have not found an alternative, but I bet White Willow Bark - which is pure asprin (and Jillian uses it for an asprin stack along with caffeine) as a fat burner and to get the most out of a workout. I'd do some research on white willow bark. I bet you could use that as a pure form of pain reliever. Tylenol is better than Ibuprofen in her opinion, but I think she still frowns upon it - plus one is bad on your stomach the other bad on your liver. I pretty much went cold turkey. Don't know what I will do when I get a migraine. Luckily I rarely get them.

oh wait - My SIL who is totally into natural things and doesn't live near me gave me Orgegano oil one time at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. I had a headache and tried it. It took the headache away (be warned you smell like a pizza big time- its spicy hot on your tongue and the smell is BIG time pizza smell). It did take it away, but when we went back on this one rollercoaster that shoots you to 0-60 in a matter of seconds the headache came back. I think the rollercoaster gave me the headache from the movement.
I'd try something like that. She swears by this stuff and does not take any pain medication at all.

LOL! That's exactly what I said to my DD while we were watching BL! Jillian doesn't believe in plastic! But I did notice that she really didn't "pitch" for it, just said that it was good they were planning ahead. Maybe she has to do it, but has taken a stand about what she will say.

I've read the Eat Clean book, it was interesting. I found what I read in Jillian's book to be something I was able to do. Keep it clean by eating organic whenever possible, and reduce the other toxins in toiletries, household stuff.

I really like that she gave some specific brands too. I went & did research on each one, and emailed most of the companies!

It was also relevant because I just got blood test info back from our local health fair. My TSH 3rd generation was above their recommended amount. I did research on it and it could indicate hypothyroidism, which this book talks about.

I'll check out white willow bark, thanks!

Anytime - i'd also do some research on white willow bark to see what the recommendations are - I know nothing about it and have no idea how much you would take.

Just want to chime in here. I was reading this thread the other day and I want to find the book you are talking about.

I bought JM's "Making the Cut" yesterday at Target. I only have 11-15 pounds left to lose, so I thought it was a good choice. Well.... as I am reading about the "Fitness Test" that she wants you to take before you undertake the program, the first thing she mentions is NO GIRLIE PUSH-UPs. Well, that pretty much eliminates me! (But I did manage the "wall sit" for 90 seconds.... and I paid for it the rest of the evening :rotfl:).

As I read along, I found parts of it interesting, but I am no interested in following a new eating plan.... especially one that is that specific. I like to have more freedom than that plan would allow. I will stick with my Weight Watchers. But reading about the different types of metabolisms, I did realize that I don't eat nearly enough protein, so I did learn something. And I already have Jillian's "30 day shred" DVD and have been doing it for almost a month, so I didn't really feel like I needed the exercise portion.

The book goes back to Target tomorrow (thank goodness they are great about returns!). I will be looking around for the Metabolism book this week.........................P
