So, while lurking around the restaurant boards over the past few months, I remember people talking about, 'the best filet and macaroni and cheese!' I've seen pictures of a filet of beef on top of macaroni and cheese, and some type of sauce. It sounded and looked so delicious, the posts about it made my mouth water. I've looked at Jiko's menu and see a filet of beef served with hominy, unless people request to have the mac and cheese instead? Does anyone know what I'm talking about and if they can confirm if it is in fact at Jiko's? If not, I want to change my ADR for the restaurant it's actually served at! Thanks in advance!

Whoops, pardon my mistake, meant to post this in the restaurant boards!! Mods, please feel free to move! Sorry again!

The filet with mac and cheese was/is at Jiko. They changed the menu so that the filet no longer comes standard with the mac and cheese, but they will happily substitute if asked.

As much as I believe in not making substitutions, the macaroni and cheese is something I'd have to ask for, it's that good. I have to wonder why they changed it at all, since that was/is one of their signature dishes, and it's not like they had a problem selling it.

This is my husband's favorite meal of all time. He lived in South Africa for a while and swears by Jiko. He looks foward to this meal from the minute we make our reservations on.

I do love Jiko's filet, but I'm not sure why all the fuss about the macaroni and cheese. Some of the other starches they've paired with it since the mac and cheese left the menu make more sense. The red wine reduction is what really makes that dish anyway.

Thanks everyone! You all make it sound delicious! I do see it on the kids menu available to orqder! However, we are on the DDP and I've read no substitutions are allowed? Also, I heard some good reviews about the Yafhtsman Steakhouse filet and truffle MAC n cheese? Anyone ate there? I figured wherever I eat I could pay OOP for mac and cheese! So what do you ladies and gentleman recommend, Jiko' s or YS???

I don't know what other starches "make more sense"; I just know that the filet with the mac and cheese and the red wine reduction is delicious! That's why the big fuss about it.

The "no substitutions allowed" is in reference to the prix fixe lunch/dinner options only that are available at some of the TS restaurants (Les Chefs, Le Cellier at lunch, Nine Dragons, Kona and Captain's Grill). For any other entree at those restaurants as well as any TS restaurant, if a side is offered on another entree, you can usually substitute it. If it is an accompaniment or side listed further down the menu with a price point, it can be ordered OOP.

I don't know if the mac and cheese offered on the Jiko's children's menu is the same as what used to be offered with the filet or if it is the more typical mac and cheese found on many children's menus. You could probably order this in place of the current side with the filet.
