Staying at AKL for 4 nights using a free dining pin. Booked Jiko for our first night since we may relax at the resort and not rush out to a park or worry about getting a 6am flight. Is it worth 2 dining credits with a DD9? My Dd22 would probably enjoy it. Thinking of switching to Sanaa and then add an Epcot dinner. Have Chef Mickey's and Ohana booked.

I have never used a dining plan so I can't speak to whether Jiko is "worth" 2 credits. I think the biggest pitfall will be that the dining plan won't cover appetizers, which are undoubtedly Jiko's strongest menu items. I will say that Jiko is my favorite Disney restaurant, though. In my opinion, it's unmissable. I would go even if you elect to pay out-of-pocket and use your credits elsewhere.

I forgot about the appetizers not being on the plan. We are splurging and staying club level so we can take advantage of appetizers in the club lounge and then go to dinner.

Our Ratings of Jiko: (10/14/2011)
. . . food price value: D
. . . food quality: C
. . . food quantity per serving: C
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: B
. . . eatery atmosphere: B
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: C
. . . character interaction: n/a

NOTE: Jiko was designed as African-style foods, but has
become too Americanized. Gone are the richly spiced foods.
Cost cutting has reduced the uniqueness of the menu items.
It is still well above average, but now it is far too expensive
for the menu items or the very spotty service.. It should be
noted, however, that the wine cellar of African wines is quite
large and superior in offerings. But, there are better choices
for fine dining within WDW.

We've had two great meals at Jiko with awesome service both times. I will agree with the PP who said the appetizers are Jiko's strong suit. I'd say that's pretty accurate. You might be happier with Saana, but there again, I'd say be prepared to pay for an appetizer or two OOP. This is why I don't exactly love the dining plan.

Honestly, I think the entrees at Sanaa are just as good as those at Jiko and Sanaa is only one credit. Like the PPs said, the stars of the show at Jiko are the appetizers. I've never thought the entrees at Jiko are at the same level as the appetizers and soups.

We have dined at both several times, we did both again a few months ago. My children like Jiko better (we order several bottles of African wine) but my grandchildren (same age as your youngest dd) like Sanaa better. However, Jiko does have a steak on the children's menu so your youngest might enjoy that.

jikos is one of the best places to eat on property and yes worth 2 food credits.

Thanks for all the replies. I switched to Sanaa. May use my 2 table credits for the Hoop Dee Doo Revue instead. Yes, totally different experience but I have a 9 year old!
