If you had to choose between Jiko or Flying Fish, which one would you choose and why? We have never been to either of them and are looking for something different to try on our upcoming trip in January. It will be myself, DH, DD8, and DD10. We really don't have picky eaters in our family because everyone can find something to their liking on any of the menus. Thanks for your help.

They're both really wonderful. I would just pick whichever place is more conveniently located. Or flip a coin. I seriously can't answer which is better - it's like asking me to pick a favorite child.

I can only speak for the Flying fish cafe and this was lovely food, the restaurant is really nice and it is fun to see the chefs cooking in front of you.

Seafood is the main dish of the Flying fish which I adore anyway so the menu had a great choice for me. :surfweb:

I agree, they're both good. I slightly prefer Jiko because I'm half-South African and it's one of the few restaurants I've been to in America that has some authentic South African flavors, but Flying Fish also has a great menu that changes seasonally. Both are great choices for non-picky eaters (but if you go to Jiko, I definitely recommend not ordering the steak with mac n' cheese, there are more interesting options out there).

If you are basing your choice purely on food, I would have to give the edge to Flying Fish (Jiko is not too far behind). If you want to take atmosphere into account, the 2 are pretty different. Flying Fish tends to be a louder more relaxed Signature meal, while Jiko is a quieter, dimmer type of restaurant. Jiko will give you a chance to roam around AKL, which is a beautiful resort with a lot to see. Flying Fish gives you a chance to roam around the Boardwalk and take in some of the performers or take in a round of mini-golf at near-by Fantasia Gardens.

In the end, this is one of those few cases where you really can't go wrong at either restaurant. You know your family and which meal or atmosphere they might like better. Jiko is a great experience but we personally give the edge to Flying Fish.

I have been to both many times. They are both very good, but I slightly prefer Jiko over Flying Fish. Since you have never been to either one, you can't go wrong with either. As a previous poster said, I would go with the one that is more conveniently located relative to your plans for the evening you plan to go.

I have been to both and definitely prefer Jiko over Flying Fish. The service, food and atmosphere are all way better at Jiko

I have been to both (this past October) and both are wonderful. Either choice would be great and you really can not go wrong. That said, I do give a slight edge to Flying Fish in service and food.

Flying Fish is my current favorite of Disney's Dining Plan signatures. Jiko ranks 3rd, behind Citricos.

Although I enjoy Jiko's appetizers, particularly the soups, I have never been all that impressed with the entrees. I've dined here 7 times, the most recent was 3 weeks ago, and the entrees are not in the same league as their appetizers. The restaurant is gorgeous and we primarily go because we love getting a couple bottles of wine but if it were not for the appetizers, we would not go.

We are fish lovers so Flying Fish offers an overall menu that is more suited to what we enjoy eating and offers more variety in that area. I love the whimsical decor here; I think their cheese plate is the best on property. Although I think bluezoo is much better in terms of the fish offerings and service, Flying Fish has a fun vibe and we enjoy the more casual meals on occasion.
