Jiko vs. Boma

Actually, I'm not surprised that it made them sick, as I stated above, if you are not used to these spices and you over do it you can make yourself sick... nor am I surprised that they had bad service... we also had bad service here (I thought it was because we were the only table not ordering wine). That said - I am surprised they didn't care for the food's flavor... this was my favorite steak ever, and the dips were amazing... but then I'm used to these spices.

Wow, your experience is the first I've heard.

Sorry that happened to you but your experience is the exception and not the rule.

Since no one in your party liked the food, I would say that the restaurant is not for you, I wouldn't give it another go. Even if the food is not your cup of tea it shouldn't have made you sick. Sorry, your experience sounds awful.

OP I would go with Jiko for dinner and Boma for breakfast.

Boma is a noisy buffet - a good one, but a buffet. Unless you consider a buffet to be a worthy anniversary dinner location, I'd recommend against it. Do breakfast at Boma, I think that is their best meal.

Jiko, on the other hand, is beautiful in an understated way and is our favorite dining experience ever, anywhere, in WDW or out. Best service we ever had, great food, great experience. Our meal at Jiko would have been worth the trip even if we hadn't gone into any parks. It puts our experiences at Cali Grill and Yachtsman Steakhouse to shame - and both of those were good. Jiko was just that much better.

Thanks everyone for your input!!!:grouphug:

I agree...African spices can make a person sick if they're not accustomed to them.

I'm going with Jiko our last evening...that way we'll still be at the resort and can just relax at the bar or take a walk around the resort afterward, make an early night of it, because we have an early flight the next morning...DH will need his beauty sleep! ;)

That is why I picked it for a meal, because of all the rave reviews. But when I came home and posted about it, I found that there are several others that had the same experience, without the vomit thank god. There was speculation that it had gone downhill or was headed that direction. I was so sad because it was the meal I was most looking forward to.

I have to say hands down Jiko. Sanaa was very good, excellent restaurant I will frequent again. Jiko however was spectacular.

Please keep in mind that this could have been as simple as not being used to this type of food... but even if it wasn't the preponderance of the reviews are extremely positive, any restaurant you go to can have momentary bad spots like this if you look far and wide enough to find them.

It was actually the meat that was the worst. We both got the fillet and I am not sure what they brought, but it was unlike any fillet we have ever had. It was tough and hard to cut through, and veiny....just gross.

And I realise that any restaurant can have issues, I am just posting my experience.

I'm sorry I misunderstood the post to which I replied.
I thought you were saying that you had decided not to try it because you heard a few bad reviews somewhere. Based on that I was suggesting you at least give it a try before dismissing it out of hand - but I see you did give it a try and didn't care for it. While I'm certain you just hit a bad night I can understand why it would be enough for you to decide not to go back. We still haven't forgiven Artist Pointe for our bad meal - and after hearing all the raves I'm sure we hit a bad night - but I still can't get past our experience... so I get that.

For our stay from Easter Sunday April 04-09, 2010.....we ate at Boma for dinner TWICE!! Food was excellent, we tasted a little of everything and then went back for our favorites!! Both nights had some different entrees, but the rest of the food/desserts items were the same. We were fine with the noise level.

We didn't eat at Boma for breakfast becasue of other off-disney activities. We didn't eat at Jiko because of other off-disney activites, but for a romantic dinner, we will eat at Jiko next time for our experience.
