Between these two, which would you choose for dinner with hubby during our anniversary trip next month? I haven't been to either. TIA!

(Three night trip...one night will be CA Grill so will need to come up with one more restaurant for the third night, not going to any parks this trip, staying at AKL...) :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

I've haven't bee to BOMA (yet... have 2 reservations for our August trip!) but my Jiko experience this past December was probably the best meal I've ever had. Ever.

If you are looking for a romantic meal with great food, great wine and great service, go to Jiko. I actually just added a one night stay @ AKL to the beginning of our vacation just to have an excuse to go again. Can you say obsessed?

BOMA sounds awesome, and I can't wait to go, but my money is on Jiko every time. Hit-up BOMA for breakfast, it's supposed to be fabulous!

I LOVE both Boma and Jiko (infact, we were at WDW last week and ate dinner at Boma twice during our stay). But, for a romantic dinner I'd go with Jiko because Boma can be quite loud.

I agree with the posters that are in favor of Jiko. Boma is a very good resturant (my favorite buffet), but it can be a bit loud and bright in there, plus you have the whole walking back and forth for food thing going on. Jiko is much quieter, very romantic, and in my mind, the best resturant on property. If you're in the area, try going on the Cullinary Tour they do at Boma and Jiko...very nice experience we had on a recent trip there.

Agree.:thumbsup2 We just stayed at AKL last month and went to Jiko for dinner and Boma for breakfast. Jiko all the way for a nice dinner. Boma is a buffet, never liked all that up and down, back and forth.:goodvibes
Or since you are staying there do both, 2 very different experiences. :goodvibes

we havent done Jiko yet but we took the whole family to Boma and everyone loved it. we are going back again next month - cant wait!

Hands down for a romantic trip it has to be Jiko. Great food, great atmosphere, the best steak I have ever eaten. As I said, a hands down winner.
Though - you might want to try Boma for breakfast and Jiko for dinner to enjoy the best of both worlds.

True

yep.

Jiko all the way for a nice dinner.

that's right.

.

All of the above statements are true.
In fact in my opinoin, I think you'll find Jiko blows away Cal Gril for romantic fine dinning.
If I were you I'd make Jiko your Anniversary night.
Definately try a flatbread. And ask the server to recommend a bottle of wine, you won't be disappointed.

I don't want to steal your thread, but I was trying to decide between Jiko and Sanaa. We've had 2 great dinners at Boma and a super breakfast. We were considering branching on our next stay at AKL.

I would say Jiko. It was a very romantic dinner. But my steak at Cali Grill was better than the one at Jiko. I was surprised because everyone raves about Jiko's steak.

We are going to Jiko for the first time in October, but I have been to Boma twice for breakfast. I agree with the PP's who said doing Boma for breakfast and Jiko for dinner.

I agree w/ choosing Jiko. We ate dinner at Boma a few days ago & it was really loud. We also had a very cute (but REALLY noisy) family next to us. Not very romantic for an anniversary dinner.

Oh, that's hard. Jiko is everything the people above said, and more. It may well be the best, most romantic meal I've ever had.

But Sanaa, first thing when they open so you're guaranteed a window table with the animals right in front of you? That may be the most fun meal I've ever had. Food just a tiny bit less wonderful, service just a tiny bit less wonderful, but ...

I agree, I'd try Boma for breakfast...but then again, we've been there for dinner and not for breakfast yet! And I would definitely have a tough time choosing between Jiko and Sanaa for dinner...actually think I would go with Sanaa though. I don't think you can go TOO far wrong with any of the 3, though. Enjoy!:)

LOVE LOVE THis Thread....as AKL is one of the 2 I'd like to try very soon...

MY QUESTION IS.... WHAT to order? I've heard mention of Short RIbs...and Filet Mignon...

Any other suggestions? THe menu seems very foreign to me... I am not picky ... but would like to know what contributes to the Great experiences with Jiko and Sanaa especially....

Hugs,
Mary

We just returned a few weeks ago, and our dinner at Jiko was TERRIBLE. I got sick and ended up throwing up. The "fillet" was not a fillet and it was disgusting. The service was terrible. There was absolutely nothing that we ordered that we liked and it was a total waste of money. I will never eat there again. I would chose Boma.

Well, if you want the whole experience ... don't order the filet! I know everyone raves about it, and I'm sure it's great, but steak with mac and cheese isn't very African. Most of the other dishes use more common African flavors, like African curry spices, or harissa, or pearl couscous.

Unless your used to these types of foods (we are, we have an Ethiopian restaurant near where we live.) I wouldn't suggest eating them as the primary part of your meal while at Disney. These spices can be extremely hard on the digestive system if you're not used to them - and the last thing anyone wants to deal with on a vacation is being ill. Especially at Disney were the constant motion is such a part of the process.

That said - I do suggest that if you can experience this cuisine near your home or even on a much slower moving vacation that you do so. I love African food.

Of course if your used to these foods everything I just said is moot. ;)

Wow, your experience is the first I've heard.

Sorry that happened to you but your experience is the exception and not the rule.

Since no one in your party liked the food, I would say that the restaurant is not for you, I wouldn't give it another go. Even if the food is not your cup of tea it shouldn't have made you sick. Sorry, your experience sounds awful.

OP I would go with Jiko for dinner and Boma for breakfast.
