My husband and I would like to try out Narcossee's for one of our 2 table service dinners. We would be giving up Jiko for this one. We have been to Jiko before. Which would you choose and why? It is for our anniversary. My husband loves seafood and I love a good steak.

Thanks for your opinions!

We have eaten at Jiko's many times. So many times that last trip we visited Jiko's there was not anything on the menu that was new or that we wanted to try. :scared1: I was disappointed since we stay at AKL and I would rather eat in the lodge than go some where else.

Last trip we also went to Narcossee's for the first time. It was VERY good. The strawberry shortcake they had at the time was just out of this world. We spent way too much money at Narcossee's but it was worth every penny. :lmao:

We still love California Grill the best but Narcossee's is just barely in second place. Jiko's has good food but it is just not getting us in the door for some reason. Next trip we plan on doing one nice restaurant and that will be CG. Jiko's has good food and great service but the menu is just not pulling there. It should but it is not.

If you have not been to Jiko's I would tell you to go but first check out a menu. If you are staying at AKL and the menu looks good try Jiko's. If you have to travel its a toss up. Jiko's does have different food than you will get elsewhere so if you like that type of experience then give it a try.

Dan

I've done both & loved them each for their own style. DH has only done Jiko. When we were looking over menus & planning our upcoming trip, he chose Narcoossees because he wanted to eat somewhere that he hasn't tried before.

If you are looking for steak & seafood, Narcoossees fits the bill perfectly. A nice bonus is the view of Wishes from the deck if the date & time work out for you.

You really can't go wrong with either choice.

I recently had the opportunity to eat at both and I would have to say Narcoossee's won it hands down. For the seafood lover, they serve a whole lobster. We talked to the Sous Chef and they are the only location on property that does so. If you prefer steak as well, they serve Surf & Turf with a filet and lobster tail.

Me and my DH had the Surf & Turf and cleaned our plates. We tired the apple tart for dessert and loved it as well.

Also, check the schedule for the fireworks at the castle the night you are going. Similar to CG, you can go outside on the patio and watch the show. They even pipe in the sound.

It was a spectacular dinner and I would highly recommend it!

I have dined at Jiko's in the past and do truly enjoy the food there, but my husband and I along with our 9 year old daughter had the pleasure of celebrating our 15th anniversary at Narcoossee's last month. We were seated promptly and greeted with menus commemorating our special event that the waitress later neatly folded and placed in an envelope for us to take with us. We were also given free champagne. I went intending to order the surf and turf but was swayed by the delicious scallop dish someone was enjoying at a neighboring table. It did not disappoint. My husband, not the seafood lover, ordered the chicken dish and really enjoyed it. My daughter had the kids filet and declared it her best meal of the trip. We also enjoyed the crab cakes and the duck roll as appetizers. We did not order desert because I had arranged with the Grand Floridian's private dining to have a mini wedding cake brought to the restaurant. Its delivery was timed perfectly by our waitress. I would not hesitate to dine at Narcoossee's again, special occasion or otherwise. The entire experience was wonderful.

Get the almond cheesecake at Narcoossee's!!!! Such a great dinner there. Jiko is excellent too, but Narcoossee's is an excellent choice and would be my choice for someone who describes themselves as "loves seafood and a good steak". Narcoossee's makes an excellent steak - our server this past trip told us that roughly 50% of the meals she serves is their steak.

Be warned that the lobster in the surf and turf and the lobster in the full lobster dinner are two different types of lobsters!

I went intending to order the surf and turf but was swayed by the delicious scallop dish someone was enjoying at a neighboring table. .

Just FYI: I'm not a big lobster fan. When I've dined at Narcoosee, I've been able to substitute scallops for the lobster on the Surf & Turf. I've always gotten a full order of scallops, in addition to the filer medallions too.

To OP: I'd go with Narcoosee. Everyone here on the DIS raves about Jiko, but I've never been particularly impressed. I've only eaten there twice, but not wowed either time. It was good, but just good, not fantastic. We love Narcoosee. Their almond cheesecake is fantastic.

Thanks for the tip aubriee.

While I do like lobster, I would definately skip it on occasion for scallops that yummy!

My choice would be Narcoossee's.

I've eaten at both, however, the one time I ate at Jiko's was about a month after it opened. I know the food and the menu has changed dramatically since then.

I had a wonderful dinner at Narcoossee's last Christmas. It was fantastic.

I prefer Narcoossee's not only for the food, but also for the location and views. We had a table by the window and had an amazing view of the lake, the monorail, and the castle.
