We just returned last night from a 9 night stay. We were at Kidani and although we only planned to eat at Jiko once, we ate their twice. After our first scheduled meal we ate their a second night when we wanted to get back near our resort earlier than we originally planned.
Our first meal was wonderful, just as we remembered from prior trips. We both had the ostrich and the filet. For desert we had the chocolate trio and the meyer lemon curd. Everything was spot on and wonderful. We also had specialty teas with our dessert and greatly enjoyed them. The service was wonderful.
Five days later our experience was not as good. It was not terrible, but if it had been our first time dining, we would not have declared this a favorite restaurant. We again ordered similarly. We got the ostrich and and savanna rolls apps. The ostrich was overcooked. Then our filets were VERY disappointing. The sauce was lacking in red wine and the veal reduction was entirely too dominating. It didn't even taste like the same dish. Our deserts were ok. Our teas were oversteeped. We had our daughter sleeping in the stroller, and despite reminding our waiter of this repeatedly, he kept using an abnormally loud voice and having unneeded conversation.
We will visit again and it is still a favorite but is definitely an example of how a restaurant can have an off night. It made me think of all the times I read conflicting reports here on the disboards.
