I will be dining at Jiko solo next month - can't wait!

I was looking at the menu at allearsnet and I don't really understand the sections.

The first part is called From the Cooking Place, then the next is Appetisers. What is the difference? I don't understand why there are two menu sctions before the entrees. Would I choose one item from each before my Entree? That seems like a LOT of food!

Both sections sort of qualify as appetizers--I believe many (or all) of the "cooking place" items are prepared in that small open kitchen at the front of the restaurant.
What Mrs. U and I do is order one each from each section--I'll order my appetizer from the Cooking Place and she'll order hers from the appetizer list.
For you solo, just one would be quite enough. MY personal recommendation is the Kenyan Coffee/BBQ Chicken flatbread (from the Cooking Place) .
YUM!!!!

Thanks UncleR, now I understand. I am tempted by that flatbread but wasn't sure if it would be too big for just me.

I know you like the lamb - I remember from previous postings. I am not such a fan but I am looking at the monkfish, salmon or pork tenderloin. This is one restaurant I have been so looking forward to visiting.

IT isn't "huge" but it is enough for me!! IT looks a bit bigger than it actually is, because it is so thin (or actually, flat!!). No law says you need to eat every last bite--
I've had the pork once before and liked it. Mrs. U always gets the monkfish.
If you can, ask for Ron as your server and let him know Uncleromulus will be back in October!!
Look forward to your review--.

Miss Mickey- you will not be dissappointed in Jiko :goodvibes
I have dined 3 times now solo at Jiko and have loved all 3 experiences. Twice I sat at the cooking place, where they prepare some of the foods such as the flatbreads and salads in front of you, and once at a regular table. If you sit at the cooking place the chefs will talk to you, and you can ask questions. My first visit I ordered a flatbread and entree but was way too full for dessert. My server said lots of people come and just order a couple of appetizers, so my next visit I ordered a flatbread, an appetizer, and dessert, no entree. I was stuffed again :teeth: If you like fish, the monkfish is wonderful.
Have fun

How about Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon? The macaroni and cheese is to die for. :teeth:

Everything we had was wonderful. I had the cheese plate, pomegranate glazed quail and creme brulee. DW had the cucumber salad, filet and flourless chocolate cake. We were impressed with all.

If it's dark when you get out, don't forget to go out the back and check out the fire pit and look for animals with the nightvision scope the lend you.
