We just got back from the World, and I know people were concerned about the changes to Jiko's menu.

I am here to tell you that it was FABULOUS! My dh had the Roasted Butternut soup - best we've ever had, with a wonderful hint of coconut. I had the Jiko Salad, with pistachios, pumpkin seeds and goat cheese. Fresh, light and delicious.

My dh then had the vegetarian entree, three lovely preparations. (And no, he's not vegetarian.) I had the duck breast, perfectly cooked with African spices. Not hot, just very flavorful.

And the creme brulee on a chocolate base was one of the best I've ever had.

Yes, the menu is different. But the quality has, if anything, increased. Even though the mac & cheese is gone.

Thank you for that review. I have been making ADR's there and canceling them again for the last few trips to the word.
Maybe I should just do it once and for all.

Thanks for the review. Jiko has always been one of my favorites and glad to hear that the changes were for the good. :thumbsup2

I could not agree more! Jiko is one of my favorites and I ate there 3 times this past trip and each time was wonderful. I also had the Jiko salad and creme brulee which were both fabulous.

I went on the Wanyama Safari, which is the evening safari offered if you are staying at AKL. The safari is followed by a family style meal at Jiko so I got to try many things I never had before, including the filet with macaroni and cheese -- I'm guessing they may still have this if you ask for it since they served it with our meal and I think they do the safari every night. I enjoyed these meals so much that I had some appetizers at the Cooking Place before heading out to the airport. :thumbsup2

The sevice was great each time. If you can, ask for Michelle as your server -- she has waited on me several times and truly makes the meal a wonderful experience. I can't wait to go back !

That's good to hear :thumbsup2

Jiko is my number 1 restaurant to try the next time I go back to WDW.

So the filet doesn't come with mac & cheese anymore??? :(
Nope. Nothing much African about mac & cheese. Yes, my daughter's disappointed, too. But the food is still fabulous. You just need to be a bit more adventurous!

Is there a link for the new menu?

The filet with mac & cheese was removed from the menu on or about October 16. (Posts on this board were able to narrow it down to the exact date!)

The wild boar appetizer was really good!

I am intrigued by your description of the creme brulee with chocolate base. Are you describing the pistachio creme brulee which I thought had been removed from the menu (but you could still ask for it). Yeah, I :worship: that dessert.

I am glad you had a nice meal! I agree with you on everything but the soup--I thought the soup was way too rich and thick.

When we were there about 10 days ago the waiter told us that the mac and cheese is still available with the filet if you want it- you just have to ask for it. The mac and cheese is still paired with most dishes on the kids menu.

We ate there twice on this trip, and had an amazing meal the first time, and a very mixed meal compounded by a horrible waiter the second time. It is still one of my favorite Disney restaurants.

Re: the creme brulee, it is a vanilla creme brulee, but it does come with a cranberry-pistachio biscotti on the side.

When I had the creme brulee (October 15) it was flavored with Amarula liqueur, not vanilla. Yes, it had a chocolate base.

Just to clarify there is still filet on the menu, but without mac & cheese. They started off with a potato gratin as a side but I hear that may have changed again.

I haven't had the pistachio creme brulee, so I can't compare it, but there were no pistachios in the brulee I had. They've migrated to the salad!

I concur. Ate at Jiko's on the 3rd of December. It was so good I ate there again on my last night the 9th. Had the short ribs. There back on the menu and they are, GREAT! Had the wild boar it was good but I wish they would bring back the ostrich. The waiter told us they took it off the menu because it became to expensive to purchace.

So are you saying the short ribs are back on the menu?!
Are they made the same way or are they changed them at all?
