Jiko-Filet with Mac and cheese is off the menu.

That was my fav entree there:sad1: Unless they replace it with something outstanding, it's enough for me to not go again:sad1: Well, this was my #1 all time fav WDW restaurant...It no longer is.:sad2:

I feel the same way. We will be trying to find reservations elsewhere for our December trip. No sense in using 2 Table Service credits when we can no longer get our favorite meal.

First the creme brulee & now the mac and cheese....
Silly question, but if you're not going to go back, how will you know whether there is "something outstanding" on the menu in its place? :confused3

I had this for the first time two weeks ago. I was underwhelmed. The filet tasted no different than the one at CG, where the view was more impressive as was the service (our waiter seemed cranky that we didn't want wine and didn't try some of the more exotic dishes). While the mac and cheese was tasty, some of the potato accompaniments I've had with my beef elsewhere in the World were tastier. I'm glad I got the chance to try it but I wasn't so impressed that I'd be sad to never have it again.

I gotta ask, because it's something that's been confusing me for a long time. What is so special about that mac and cheese ??
I mean, Jiko is an African-themed restaurant yet it seems that most people are going there to eat steak and mac and cheese. I don't get it.:confused3

I have eaten there a few times, and had that filet alot- and I never "got" the mac & cheese- I always kind of felt like there was just not enough cheese with the mac- although the filet & sauce were always good. So this time DH ordered it (it was his first visit). And he thought the SAME THING I always did, without me saying anything!! So when they asked us how everything was, we told them we know so many people adore this, but we just don't get it...where's the cheese? The server was in a mgmt training program, she was sooooo sweet, and she actually got us a bowl of the stuff to try, because she said they are all ALL ABOUT the mac & cheese at Jiko. And ya know what? THAT m&c was cheesy and delicious- I am so glad she brought it to us. We were guessing that when you got it straight from the pot, it was creamy...but maybe if it was sitting under a lamp waiting for a filet to be perched on top, the cheese baked in to the mac a little too much. :confused3

Either way- mac or potatoes, it was a spectacular meal- the wild boar app was TDF:worship:, the flatbread with the goat cheese was yummmmmm & my lamb entree was delicious. Throw in a bottle of Warwick Pinotage, and it was a fabulous night!:goodvibes

DH & I have eaten at Jiko numerous times. We are both very picky eaters & this is the item we both liked the most. It's not that we wouldn't eat there again but for 2 table service credits, I will try someplace else instead this next trip.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!
This was my favorite meal.
Oh well maybe the potato version is just as good.

Ummmm, havent you noticed word travels fast on the DIS:rotfl2: Someone will post about it.

So the filet w/the sauce is still on the menu, but they've removed the mac & cheese, correct? Ok, so is it half the price now?

I was there two weeks ago and it was still there. Oh no, the mac and cheese was my favourite part!

Actually we ate there twice about two weeks ago, once on our own and once on the Wanyama Safari. Funny the chef came out and was talking about the filet with mac and cheese saying they had just changed the recipe of the marinade on the filet and the reduction also, so funny they would change it again.

It annoys me when they take something that is so popular off the menu. I know filet is still there, but not with the mac and cheese and it was the most delicious thing! They can keep the same thing on the menu, like 50's Prime Time has had the chicken pot pie and meatloaf for as long as I can remember, no need to change.

Oh well, at least I did get my fix of mac and cheese with my filet twice on our last trip :cool1:

No, they replaced the mac and cheese with a potato gratin.

Oh! I must've missed that somewhere in the thread..Hmmm, I don't know, I guess I'd be willing to give it a try, I'd have to think about it...It's still $42 though, isn't it?:confused3

My favorite restaurants always change their menus. My first choice restaurant locally changes its menu every month, based on what's fresh and what the chef feels like making. I can't blame Jiko for that. As long as I trust the chef and the quality of what he/she is serving, I don't require a specific menu item.

Maybe I'm just strange.

My husband and I just finished the TERRIBLE new filet with broccoli and potato gratin. Tasted like bad sirloin. Potatos were OK, but not as good as the ones we had at citricos on Monday. Worst meal of the week and we are not picky. However they do have some sort of short ribs now.

I think I'm the only DISer who doesn't much care for that dish. I thought it was an odd pairing, and while the filet and wine sauce were excellent I'd have preferred something else, a potato or risoto or something, in place of the mac & cheese.

I'm still disappointed the ostrich appetizer is gone, though. That was simply amazing.

I ate at Jiko on Friday, October 15, and I thought the filet with mac and cheese was still on the menu as of then. I didn't order an entree. I had a corn chowder and a wild boar appetizer (new to the menu as of last month!) as my meal.

The wild boar was on the menu in August...but so was the filet with mac and cheese.

Was the corn chowder you had the roasted Brentwood chowder?

Ok, gotta ask.. what's the big deal with the "short ribs" lately? what is it anyhow?
I seem to remember mymo makeing them when I was a kid, when dad's paychek was short.. really.
I got an email from Famous Daves' about A short rib. you get just one. I heard you get just ONE at Coral reef.
I remember the beef being similar to pot roast.

Is it just PR? you "tout" something enough, everyone thinks it's great? (like the recent trend with Tilapia?)

someone who knows, please explain "short Rib" to me. and why I would use TS credit it get pot roast on a bone.

But do your favorite restaurants eliminate their signature dishes???

I don't know about short ribs now or lately, but for my money the short rib at Jiko was the best meal I ever had at Disney.

I haven't eaten there in more than a year, though, so I don't know what it's like lately.

Shoot! This is the second time that something on my "to do" list has been taken of the menu before I got to "to do" it. Last time it was the maple filet at LC.
