Question for all of you Jiko lovers: I think DH and I are trying Jiko in May, I was looking at their menu (which looks awesome) and I was wondering what everyone's favorite entrees are. Out of the entrees I like the following: chicken, filet, pork tenderloin, ribs and the salmon. Which of these do you consider the "signature dish"? I want to make sure that I order the best possible entree. :thumbsup2

TIA!!

My husband LOOOVES the filet and the short ribs. I have had the chicken and it is very good, but since you eat red meat I would go with either the filet or the ribs--my DH has tried my chicken and agrees that the ribs and filet are even better!

My favorite entree is the halibut with the vegetables of the moment. So yummy! We've never had a bad meal at Jiko.

The pork was just ok--after the pork at CG though it was a disappointment. The restaurant is lovely and I would return, just trying something different for the entree.

DH loved the filet with Mac n cheese. I got a taste and it was delicious. However, I ordered the Monk Fish it was good and is no longer on the menu. We plan on dining in May also, so we shall see!

Oak grilled Filet Migon with Macaroni & Cheese and Red Wine Sauce.

The best steak on property. The Mac & Cheese is white, not yellow and just yummy. This is all I ever order there.

My favorite at Jiko is the filet with mac and cheese. In Dec. my husband and daughter had the Tile Fish and they both thought is was really good.

When we went to Jiko in the beginning of this month, dh had the filet with mac & cheese, which he thought was very good. I had the tilefish, which was amazing--GREAT sauce and very, very tasty fish. Even my dd9 got into the spirit of things and ordered broiled salmon from the kids' menu, and she ate every bite!

You'll love Jiko!

yum I have to agree about the filet. Here is a pic to salivate over:

we ate there jan 10th for the first time and LOVED it. we intended to eat at Boma but the wait was 30 minutes and Jiko was just 15. I had the Tilefish, it was wonderful. my sil had the filet and really liked it. I think my husband had the ribs but I can't remember. I had the cucumber, tomato salad with the watermelon dressing, it too was great. The best part was the pistachio creme brulee on a chocolate graham crust. :lovestruc It was the best dinner of our trip, and by mishap too, sometimes that is the best way to find things:)-Good luck, I think you'll enjoy no matter what you chose.

The filet is probably their "signature" dish--but for me it's almost always that Braised Lamb Shank!!

I had the filet last time I was at Jiko and it was very good, but I still love the braised short ribs best of all. I also like the pork tenderloin and the lamb shank better than the filet. There are so many places on property to get a good filet, I like to try something different at Jiko

My good friend loves the filet. But I always get a flatbread for my entree - they're just sooo good! (and I usually get a Tusker House beer to wash it down with - I know, I feel so strange doing beer and a pizza at this fantastic restaurant, but hey, gotta go with what I like!) :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm excited to eat here!! I talked DH into a "quick" vacation in May and we've decided to eat at all new restaurants the entire trip. We have 4 or 5 must do's for every trip we do, by eating at the same places every time, I think we're ignoring a lot of awesome Disney dining!!

Scoutsmom--Thanks for the picture, something to drool over! By the way, I love the picture of your dog, I have a 9 month black lab named Hines. Right now he's driving me crazy by continually ringing his potty bell and we just came in from outside!!

Just wanted to give my 2 cents. I think that the beef short ribs are the best thing on the menu. I am not a great fan of ribs, but our waitress highly recommended them. I am glad she did. They were delicious and tender and the meat fell right off the bone. So, enjoy your meal, whatever you decide.

If you are staying at AKL (or if you have time one afternoon to stop by for it) consider doing the culinary tour. DH did this and was really glad he did. The chefs from Jiko talked about the menu and the "special" dishes. They recommend (surprise!) the filet and tile fish along with one other thing...have to ask him what it was...as entrees. For appetizers it was the Taste of Africa and the Kenyan coffee BBQ chicken flatbread. They explained the deal with why the menu is all South African and the wine list is all North African (or vice versa! like I said it was DH who did the tour ;) )

The tour was at like 3:00 and lasted about 40 minutes.

I had the filet earlier this month and found the smoky flavor overwhelmed everything else. I would not recommend it. And it was overpriced.
