Hi -

I may be interested in sitting at the counter for our dinner at Jiko in December. Is this something to request ahead of time or do you ask when you arrive? Also, can you interact with the chef while sitting at the counter or are you just watching?

Thanks!

Never done it but believe you ask when you arrive. Should note also that you are not seated at a counter where the actual kitchen is located. Rather, it's at the "Cooking Place" where they prepare flatbreads and such.

Yes you can just ask to sit there when you arrive to check-in. The chefs will talk and interact with you. Plus they will give you some samples of stuff as well (at least they did on my visit).

We sat at the "Cooking Place" on our last visit. We noticed that the seats were available and asked if we could be seated there. It's actually quite entertaining. We had dinner, a couple of drinks, and enjoyed the show. It's not as formal as table service, but it is relaxing. :)
