Jiko, Citrico's, or Narcoossee's?

We loved Jiko, it was a fantastic dining experience...that being said we are doing all three you listed in Oct...

Thank you all for your suggestions, we've decided to go with Jiko.

On a related note, I've never been to the AKL, but I've had a couple of people tell me they consider it the best resort on the property. We've stayed at all of the MK resorts, but none of the other deluxes, so I'm curious - is the reason it is always so much less expensive and has greater availability due strictly to its relatively remote location?

thanks again

After your dinner at Jiko, you can head out behind the AKL pool and check out the animals with night vision goggles. :)

I've not heard about night goggles. Is it just in the back of the resort? Any extra information about it would be great!

It's one of the activities provided at AKL. It's usually long enough after sunset so that it's dark--you can check the activities board in the main lobby, or you may be able to call the front desk and ask what time it is.

They usually meet out behind the pool on the edge of the savannah there--if you walk out to the pool area and along the left side of the pool, back behind there along the fence there will be a CM with a couple of pairs of night vision goggles you can use to look at the animals. (They usually put some food out to bring them over to that area.)

We had Narcoossees booked and changed it to Jiko because I kept reading such fabulous reviews about Jiko and such negative reviews abotu Narcoossees!

I'm not really sure where you heard all these negative reviews... usually threads about Narcoossee's only yield just one, maybe two negative things about it out of 30 or so, I'd say that's pretty dang good.

Agreed, I see VERY positive reviews with a few neg reviews..............

Its as much about atmosphere as food. We went to Nacoosee's for a quiet nigh out sans kids. Had dinner arrannged to see fireworks which we could see from our table and deck. Food was great would highly recomend if quiet is not boring to you. We also ate a Boma which was wonderful and loud. Found most of AKL loud and active which was great for night with kids.we look.I'm w the poster who recommened all three if you have time go for it. We loved how every place we ate was so very different in food and atmosphere. Kids really got to see a different world from the Pittsburgh area they know.

I would def recommend Narcoossee's. DH and I love it there - we are going there for the 3rd time in Sept. We have had great service and great food (love the filet and the au gratin potatos - great dessert - good bread, too), and we like the atmosphere. When we have been there (we have had late ressies btwn 9:30 and 10:00) it was a relaxing atmosphere. Love looking out the window and seeing the castle.

On our trip in Jan, we went to Citrico's for the first time. We did not care for it much. We did not like the atmosphere and our server was rather poor. It was much brighter and louder than our experience at Narcoossee's. The food was good, but not good enough to even out the other negatives. I know a lot of people like this place, but we didn't. :confused3

We have never been to Jiko though.

Jiko all the way... We ate there during our honeymoon in May and loved it so much that we canceled our ADR for Citrico's and went back to Jiko. Delicious!!

Thanks for the info! :) Do you know if it's only avalable to AKL guests as DW and I will be staying at BWV?

Also look for CM around the viewing areas. We were at the viewing area on the left side of the entrance just after dinner at Boma. We were all alone except for a painter and a CM offered our kids a private tour off the back to see the Wart hogs! She was very sweet and gave each kid a certificate. We were staying at the Poly but she never even asked if we were resort guests. So strike up a conversation with a CM and you will be even more likely to get one of these "moments". I know the Poly has hula lessons and a torch lighting ceremony and the BC has movies on the Beach with popcorn smores and a fire pit. I never saw anyone looking for ID. Cant wait to get back and try those night vision goggles!:cool2:
