Jiko Bar

OK Im confused. Does Jikos actually have a bar area ie somewhere you can go have a drink and just get appertisers without any sort of reservation?

Jiko has a VERY SMALL bar area across from the Hostess stand where you check in. We had drinks there while we waited for our table, but we had to stand the entire time. There was a family there who were eating.
I don't know if I would count on that space being available though. We waited for about 45 minutes (long story ) and the same family were there the entire time taking up all the table space.

Yes. Be advised it is extremely small. There are only four barstools, and the tables in the area are used to seat guests with reservations if they need the overflow room.

This is NOT the same area as the "Cooking Place" which is inside the restaurant. The bar is opposite the check-in desk, with the wine room on the left.

Yes there is a lovely bar with a good wine list but it is very very small!!! Ideal to wait 4 a table but not 2 have a drink all night!

Yes, there is a small bar/lounge area in Jiko. Bar has 4 or 5 stools (I think), and about six tables with chairs.

If the restaurant is busy, they will serve the full menu in the bar area, no problem. The bartenders are fantastic!

On many occasions when the bar inside the restaurant is filled we go to the bar upstairs above Boma which is just a walk up the stairs and has quite a view! It's almost like being in an African treehouse...very cool indeed. I actually prefer to go there and have a drink and if I remember correctly we've had apps there as well.

we stopped there last year and it was a nice atmosphere. we'll be staying at AKL in december and i have a feeling i will be sampling many african beers there during the week.

They have an incredible drink there called the Chocolate Covered Cherry. It is sooooooo good, you should take a trip over there just for this! I stopped in at Victoria Falls one night thinking I could get one there, but it is a specialty drink at Jiko. I can't wait to have another!!!

Thanks all! We wanted to try some apps at Jiko but didn't want to take up an ADR so the bar sounded like a good idea
