We are returning at the end of Feb and are looking for a different restaurant than the ones we have already tried. We are not into the buffet scene and are not doing the dining plan.

I read about Jiko @ AKL and it sounds interesting.

It will definitely be DH & me and quite possibly MIL (very adventurous gal), DS (11) & DD (8).

Experiences there? Advice?

same question please :)
we've tried Boma a few years ago and loved it! While we were waiting, i wandered around and my eyes glazed over the display menu across the way at Jiko, looked good but a lil' pricey. I have read and heard great things about this restaurant and is considered to be a "not to be missed."

I am searching for a nice restaurant to take the DGF for our final evening here. Thanx!

I have eaten at both, most recently at Jiko's earlier this month. For kids, I would definately recommend Boma, which is more family oriented and a lot cheaper. We were all disappointed in Jiko's, both with the food and our rather unfriendly waiter. And it was very expensive for what we got.

We loved Jiko this past December! Dh had the filet and mac and cheese and it was FABULOUS! I don't really like steak, and I loved it. I had some kind of fish that was terrific as well. Great wine pairings recommended by our waiter and delicious desserts.
I'd say Jiko is our new favorite at WDW.
Oh, and my kids were 6 and 2 at the time. It was fine. Lots of kids there.

My wife and I thought Jiko was the best restaurant we visited in WDW. The decor and scenery are gorgeous, the waitstaff was very friendly and accomodating, which is important when dealing with unfamiliar food. We don't have children, so it was a romantic meal for us. We thought Boma sounded loud, though a buffet would have given us the opportunity to try more things.

If you do Jiko, start with a flatbread instead of soup or salad. Definitely worth it!

We ate at Jiko in November 2004 and absolutely LOVED it so much that we immediately rearranged our schedule so that we could return before our trip was over. When we returned this past November we did the same...eating there twice in one trip. I have it on the top of my list for our trip in a few weeks. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxed and the food is always unusually wonderful and fresh. The wait staff have always been courteous, attentive and willing to accommodate my peanut allergy. I heartily recommend it! I have ordered the Quail with Pomegranate and Rice, the filet with macaroni and cheese and the flatbread with olive and arugula. My husband has enjoyed the tomato salad, the flatbread, the halibut and the grains and veggies. The appetizer bread and butter is WONDERFUL! It is just the two of us and we tend to eat around 8 or later, however, we have seen families with children there.

Jiko's was by far the best restaurant we have ever eaten at in WDW (and after 5 trips we have eaten at possibly 90% of the sit-down restaurants on-site). In fact, it was one of the top 5 meals I've ever eaten. It was fantastic. The kids loved it (ages 10,7,4) and the service was some of the best we have ever experienced. Yes it was expensive, but a most memorable and enjoyable evening. I recommend it to all my friends and family and they have never been disappointed.

Jiko's is my favorite resturaunt at WDW. Service is excellent, atmosphere is quiet, food is excellent.

Oh Jiko is wonderful. I ate there last summer and i ordered the filet with mac and cheese. It was fantastic! For dessert the creme broule and it was real
good. :thumbsup2 The African wine was not bad either! :goodvibes

Ate at Jiko for the first time last June -- liked it so much, went back two days later.

Our boys (7 & 5) were treated great.

Food, service, ambiance -- all top notch.

Will be going back this June.

GO!!!

We have several favorites for food and ambiance (Cal Grill, Yachtsman, Artist Pointe -- Jiko is probably the top of the list)

I agree wholeheartedly with those who love Jiko! We were there in early Jan. this year and really, really enjoyed our meal. There are plenty of kids' choices (like pb&j, mac & cheese, etc), even healthy ones--my dd9 ordered broiled salmon and ate every bite--even commented recently that the salmon we had here at home was "not nearly as good as the salmon at Jiko!" My dh had the filet, and it was great, and I had tilefish, and it was just delicious. Our waiter was knowledgable, and the ambience was beautiful. Although it is pricey, it was worth it to us. It's a beautiful place and a wonderful restaurant.

great! sounds like Jiko is the place to be. I just made reservations for 2 at 7pm! :thumbsup2

Jiko rox!
DW and I stayed at AKL in August and had dinner at both Jiko and Boma. We far preferred Jiko and think it's the best meal either of us has ever had at WDW. The service was excellent and the food very good. The scallops were our fave. Check out the reviews I wrote after our trip-I go into great detail on Jiko and included pix:

We went to Jiko in October. We also had an unfriendly waiter - who also brought the wrong food and never offered us refills or to get us another drink (bad waiter, I can drink two martinis when I am staying right upstairs!) My husband LOVED his steak, the kids were just OK with their meal (they are five and six) and we were disappointed with what was on the children's menu (but I think we got a different one - we had chicken fingers and mac n cheese and pb&J - other people have reported grilled chicken and salmon - so maybe it was a bad night). I ordered wrong and got the ribs, which were well flavored, just the wrong piece of meat and far too fatty for what I was envisioning - sounded better than they were, I was seduced by the sweet potatos - which were more of a garnish UNDER the heavy ribs - I should have ordered fish.

Since my husband LOVED his steak (did I mention he really LOVED that steak), and the place gets rave reviews, I'm assuming that the waiter and kids menus were a fluke, and I just ordered poorly and we will be back.

(By the way, we didn't really like Boma)

Jiko's is the best restaurant at WDW in my opinion. The food, atmosphere, decor, ambiance and staff are all amazing. Don't miss it.

Due to the welcomed response here, we will have our final evening meal on this WDW trip @ Jiko's! Called for PS yesterday afternoon after reading the advice given on this thread.

As always, the folks here @ the DIS come through!!! :cheer2:
