What's the most reasonable wayo to get to the city from the Airport? DD and her BF are heading there next week and trying to save some pennies!

They are also thinking of seeing the Rockettes...do their tkts ever go on sale at the TKTS booth in Times Sq?

Just wondering...
THANKS!:thumbsup2

Yes, the Christmas Spectacular is often on the TKTS board. If you go to their website they give you a "what was on the board last week" update. It doesn't mean that it will be there currently, but you can get a pretty good idea of what will be available. http://www.tdf.org/TDF_SupportPage.aspx?id=68&do=v

ok. From JFK the easiest way would be to take the Air Train (kinda like the monorail) to the Jamaica train station. This is $5 per ride. From the Jamaica station, they want to catch a train into Penn Station. http://www.panynj.gov/Airtrain/offairport_jfk.html

http://lirr42.mta.info/index.asp - Put in From Jamaica, to Penn Station. There should be a lot of trains, Jamaica is a popular stop. The train ride should be about 20 minutes, its not very long at all. The cost will depend on the time & day they go, but it should be no more than $10.

From Penn Station, they can take a subway to wherever they are going. Or walk, if its close enough. Your thread title says soho - where in soho will they be going? I can tell the the exact subways to take, so its the least confusing as possible.

No problem! I don't mind at all. I know the city can be overwhelming to people who aren't used to it, so I like to have visitors get the most out of their trip.

I think a flat fare from JFK to Manhattan is around $45-50 + tolls & tip. I'm not 100%, but im sure someone on the boards is.

It might even be cheaper than $30, if they hit the train from Jamaica at the right time.

An all day metro card for the subway is $7. Thats the best way to go if they are going to use the subway a lot. A single ride is $2. I think it might be going up to $2.50 soon, if it hasn't already. I was in 2 weeks ago and it was still at $2.

The closest stop to their hotel is Canal Street. (which is where all the fake purses are, btw!) From Penn Station, they would take the 1 train (its red, but use the number, not the color) down to Canal Street. They would then have to walk up a few blocks to their hotel. Its not far though. Here is the subway map http://mta.info/nyct/maps/submap.htm

I also have a code for Buy 1 ticket for radio city, get 1 off. If you would like it, just shoot me a PM. Feel free to ask any other questions too.
