Jewish DIS'ers How do you easily explain Tu B'Shevat?

Okay since I am on ritual committee I volunteered to buy the needed items for Tu B'Shevat. When the lady at the register rung me up she mentioned that I should have bought the almonds I picked ( which were unshelled ) at Christmas time since the store had bigger bags of them then. I mentioned that all the items I was buying were for a Jewish holiday. ( She asked if it was passover ) I said no its for Tu B'Shevat, then she asked what it was. I said it was an ecological holiday about trees.

Did I do ok?

you did fine, cheryl. you could also say it's the New Year for trees.

did you know you're supposed to plant parsley for Tu B'Shevat? plant it now, and use it at the Seder for Passover.

Yes we are planting parsley, and also we plant our omer too soon. I even got Carob chips from a natural foods store.

are you doing the whole Kabbala Seder? or just making sure to eat 15 fruits?

I believe just the fruits. Altough it is called a seder.
