For all you who have done the western, how is the jewelery shopping at the ports? We did the eastern cruise in March and unfortunately, I was unable to purchase a ring I loved. When I went back to buy it, the salesman had told me the wrong information about the ring, so I couldn't puchase it (they first told me it was pink sapphires, diamonds and tanzinite, but turned out to be diamond and tourmoline - not worth the price they wanted). Needless to say I couldn't find anything else before the ship left, so none for me :(. We are now booked on the Western for next December and my husband has already started saving for a piece of jewelery for me since I couldn't get one before.

Is the jewelry buying like in St. Maarten? Negotiable? Lots of Stores? Good Buys? It will be our 10th anniversary and my 40th birthday, so I am excited to get something special. If not, then maybe I will get something from the Ships store?

Buy in Cozumel, don't wait for Grand Cayman. Much better prices in Cozumel, just be sure to go with the jewelry stores recommended by the ship. I don't remember where we bought, but I do remember I wouldn't pay what they wanted in Grand Cayman, and they wouldn't barter.

bump... I am always looking for jewlery deals!

Doesn't the ship dock at Grand Cayman first? Is there a buying seminar like the eastern cruise had? We watched that on TV about 50 times!! Is tanzinite all around or is it a different type of gem that is plentiful?
