I just saw that JetBlue flies out of BWI. We usually fly Southwest out of BWI. I've never flown JetBlue. Thoughts on how they compare to Southwest? It looks like there is one nonstop flight daily from BWI to MCO and back again. I'd consider flying them if I can get decent prices. Can you pre-select your seats on JetBlue? Anything else I should consider?

TIA!

JetBlue is our preferred airline. You can preselect seats. There are three levels of ticket - we already go with the middle one- and extra legroom seats at a reasonable cost (dh is 6'7" these are important to us). They include tv service in flights and a snack.
Overall a good airline imo

Thank you, Gracie. That is very helpful.

One other question - How do I find out when JetBlue will be releasing their next set of dates? Right now they are out through the beginning of September and I'm looking for October.

We fly Jetblue out of BWI all the time now. We are not fans of SW. But when we do fly SW, we always buy early birds. While you choose your seat assignment on Jetblue, you do have to pay for luggage. If you "prebuy" your luggage its generally the same cost as the SW earlybirds. Also, all in your party has to do the prebuy if one does. So if there are 3 of you and you only need to check 2 bags, then buy tickets for 2 with luggage and go back and buy a ticket for one with no luggage....keeping in mind that the one needs to be an adult because there is an issue with the computer seeing an unaccompanied minor if the 3rd one is not an adult. Hope that makes sense. We are Jetblue CC holders so we don't pay for luggage. That one nonstop a day is always a little scary. Knowing that something could go wrong, we always have a backup plan which involves flying into Reagan and renting a car to BWI. Not the best scenario, but something that works. We are also trueblue members and you should join that if you think you might fly them in the future. They have a thing called family pooling where all the family members' points can go into a lead family members account. So if there are 3 in the family and all get 500 trueblue points for a flight, then the lead gets 1500 points from that flight. Some flights to MCO are as low as 3,400 points, so you get a free flight quickly. My daughter averages 2 free flights a year (one way) because of family pooling. We get alot of free flights a year, between trueblue points and using their JB creditcard.

Excellent information @n2mm. Thank you! I think I will book myself and my twin sons with luggage and my husband separately without luggage. I'm glad you addressed that in your response because that was one of my questions.

I'm looking forward to trying JetBlue. I was playing around with dates on the JB and SW sites, and JB always comes in cheaper by at least $100. DH said for the savings he'd even be willing to fly out of Reagan, which is only about 20 mins farther from our home in PA.

I'm sorry for hijacking the thread, but I just wanted to ask about the free luggage with the JetBlue Mastercard, which I have. I've been buying the middle fare (blue? plus? I don't remember) to get the checked bag. Does this mean I've been paying for something I didn't have to?

JetBlue is also my preferred airline (I've had their branded card of some sort since 2012). While I fly out of the NYC area, I would definitely choose them over any other airline. As others can say you can pre-select your seats. The seats are fairly wide and comfortable, even for a pooh-sized person such as myself.

They offer unlimited soft drinks, water, juice, coffee, tea and name-brand snacks. There are premium boxed snacks for $5.

The entertainment available comes from 36 Direct TV channels (generally basic cable), 2-4 movies, and music stations. Most flights should come with basic wifi that should allow for browsing/email. There is a fee for wifi that can be used for streaming.

As for when the prices for October, I would expect within the next few weeks or so. I got an email in July 2016 saying that you could book through May 2017. If you could book through September 2017 in December 2016 that's about nine months ahead of time. Keep an eye out! You may be able to create an alert with Skyscanner or Kayak or some similar service.

So glad I saw this thread. We always fly SW from BWI but have found good pricing on Jet Blue for our next trip. It's a little frustrating because lately the only great fares on SW are Tuesday's and some Wednesday's super early or late. Unfortunately, those days are difficult for us. Thursday's have been as high as weekends!

They have two mastercards. One is free and the elite card has a $99 yearly fee. One of the perks is free luggage for the holder plus 3 if on the same itinerary. I crunched the numbers and it was worth it for us since we fly 4-5 round trips a year on jet blue, often with the grandkids. We recoup that after one trip, one way. I also get 6 times the points when purchasing tickets with it on JetBlue.

And I just downgraded my card too. Oh well, I don't fly enough to make the fee worth it. And thanks to family pooling I don't keep my points (I'm not the head of household) so I wouldn't even get the 5% of points back. Thanks for following up, though!
