We have a flight booked for $170 out of Boston. I'm looking at changing flight to a much earlier and direct flight out of Hartford for 145. I know each person is charged $100 to change the flight. Will we be given Jetblue credit bc of the flight difference?

What will happen is that you will received a $70 per ticket credit to a JetBlue " bank" account when you cancel the first flight

When you book the new flight, you'll have the option to apply your "bank" $ as a payment for the flight.

You'll get a totally new confirmation number

My daughter was just told that you will only receive a refund if your particular flight goes down in price, you can not change your flight. I suppose you can get the credit for the present flight and wait a few days and hope the hartford one is still the same price and change flights. Not sure if they will work or not, but let us know if you do change it.

You have paid $170 pp for each ticket. You will be charged another $100 per ticket if you make a change. (If they change the flight or lower the price of the exact flight, you can get a credit, but that's THEM making a change to the flight price, not you, and not to the flight itself.) The change fee is going to more than wipe out any difference in fare. You'll be left with a $70 credit to apply to a new flight...$170 for the existing ticket minus the $100 change fee equals $70 remaining.

The tickets you are looking at switching to are $145, and you'll be able to apply the $70 credit per ticket leaving $65 MORE per ticket that you owe. Is it worth the additional $65 per person (the net difference in the change fee and then lower price of the new ticket)? Depending on where you live (if the Hartford flight is more convenient), it might be worth it...$235 total out of pocket per person isn't horrible.

We changed our flight from 6:30 am to 9:00 because my wife thought 6:30 was too early. When we did they whacked us for the $100 per ticket (4 of them) but with the difference in flight price it only cost us $148 total so not bad at all.

So the day of my flight can I call to see if there is anything available and if there I'd it's just 50 per person? What if the flight I switch to is more expensive? Do I have to pay the difference?

I've never had to do a day of change, so it might only be $50 ea, but most likely the fare will be higher and you'll pay the difference

The rep your daughter spoke with either did not understand the question or gave incorrect information. You can change your flight, you just have to pay the change fee, as already stated.

If you go to the page I linked to, you will find this information. You can also try standby; instructions for this are found on the same page.

They told me the same thing about it being $50 if you do it within 24 hours.

If the fare goes up you definitely have to pay the difference.

False. If it's a more expensive flight but you make the change the day of, you will only need to pay the $50.

Standby won't work:

You must travel between the same city pairs (i.e. You can be confirmed on a nonstop and travel standby on a connecting flight or vice versa as long as the origin and destination cities remain the same).

The OP's current origination is Boston, and they want to move it to Hartford.

That's what I was going to say, they are using different airports not near each other in terms of same day departure flights. If OP lives closer to Hartford and that is the preferred airport it might be worth making the change, otherwise I would stick with the BOS flights.
