Are you allowed to bring sunscreen ( a regular size can) in your carryon luggage?
I am finding conflicting information on the TSA website. anyone recently travel with sunscreen?

Information is pretty clear. I don't see any exception or any reason for you to think the information is conflicting.

Sunscreen
  • Carry On Bags: Yes (Less than or equal to 3.4oz/100 ml allowed)
I assume you're asking about the rule. I suspect some passengers may bring a larger size. Some may get caught and some might not.

If you take the sunscreen out of it's container, does it hold it's shape? If not, the container needs to 100ml (3.4oz).

The conflicting information is that it also says that "medically necessary" liquids may be brought on board in reasonable quantities for the trip. There was a time last year where sunscreen was specifically included in the list. https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/medications-liquid

The goal is to get through security fast. Smooth. Efficient. There is no stated exemption for sunscreen. The opposite. Its listed as liquid restricted to 100 ml

You're certainly free to claim a medical exemption. You have to separately declare it. Probably wait for a supervisor. You have to be prepared to throw it out.

Neutrogena makes a 3oz cream. Not as convenient as spray but it does last me the whole vacation.

I just ordered travel size on Amazon, I think it was banana boat brand, but go to Amazon and do a search for travel size suntan lotion and several come up. I got a 3 pack.

Op, I pack a travel-size bottle in our carry-on for our arrival day. I usually place a grocery order to be delivered and include sunscreen. I have also just purchased sunscreen at MCO or at Disney after arrival.

I just buy the 3oz empty refillable bottles. I can fill them with whatever I want. Shampoo, body wash, mouthwash, sunscreen, booze, whatever

My sunscreen always gets thrown out by TSA when I forget that it's in my carry-on bag.
was behind a woman a few years ago that had 3 bottles of it in her carry on and was not happy when TSA made her throw them away.

I went abroad May 2022 and both ways they let me take my 8oz bottle of sunscreen when I stated it was medically necessary. On the way back they were giving me a hard time so I had to show them the note from my dermatologist because I am susceptible to skin cancer and sunburns. They will conduct an extra test on it but that's fine. Make sure you get a medical note approved by your doctor. And make sure you declare it and take it out to show them the bottle.

there's currently no exception to the TSA carry-on size limitations on liquids for sunscreen. I've got a solid sunscreen stick.

If you have checked luggage that is where I put any of these items. Take on the plane only those things you actually need to use while in the air. Too many people seem to ignore the rules and/or think they don't apply to them and then get miffed when TSA has to toss some of those unapproved items in the trash. If you ONLY have carry-ons and no checked bags, I would look to buy some of those small travel-size products to carry with you.

Well the TSA let me take the 8oz of sunscreen because I had a signed doctor's note. They are not medical professionals. They can't go against a doctor's order when I have a condition that requires that I wear sunscreen.
