Jetblue belt extenders?

How many does each flight typically have? Can I request 2? My twins fly in carseats and every single flight on every single airline tends to have the buckle directly on my childs back with properly tightened (which makes sense since it tends to sit near an adult's belly button). This was ok when they were smaller since they could sit sort of off to the side of the seat, but they have gone through a growth spurt and are currently the size of 3 year olds so they will take up the entire seat this trip and that will not be comfortable. I was thinking an extender can be positioned so the buckles can sit on either side of the seat and the back is flat. I was debating buying my own to bring, but I am concerned they wont be as safe as the ones directly from the airline.

Will one half of the seat belt loop through the side of the car seat twice so the buckle ends up off to the side and will the other half of the seat belt still reach?

How about taking a folded up blanket or a pillow over the buckle?

A seatbelt extender won't help move the buckle, unfortunately. Since the male end of the buckle is a fixed length, adding a belt extender will only introduce another buckle to poke the child in the back.
You can try folding a small towel or blanket to put behind the child to help cushion the buckle a bit.

My son is in a seat that can convert to a booster. I still use the 5 point harness in the car, but I don't on a plane. Instead I strap the seatbelt around him and the seat like it would be in booster mode. It's much more comfortable for my son this way.

I considered buying the CARES harnesses, but our flight home is late so (I hope) they will sleep. I am not sure if the cares would be comfortable for sleeping since there is no head support to hold their heads.

Yeah, I've looked at that a few times, but I can't justify it. My son loves his car seat, and I agree about the head support. Heck, I use the wings as my head support so I can sleep too.

You actually can't do this. Boosters can't be used on a plane because the plane only has lap belts. Boosters are designed to be used with a lap/shoulder belt. Your car seat manual (and the wording on the side of the car seat) will say the seat is approved for use on aircraft when using the internal harness and NOT approved for use in booster mode.

I was once told that the airlines cannot ever guarantee how many extenders are on each plane because they occasionally have a passenger who may deplane with one in hand. Because of that, I was told to be sure to ask for one early, even before getting to my seat, in case they had to go "borrow" one from another flight.

Thank you for saying that. :)
