unfortunalty yes..... but easter doesnt run during that same time period this year which hopefully may make a difference..:wizard:

Traditionally, airfare is usally at its cheapest at 6 months and 2 months prior. Your trip is still over 10 months away, so I would suggest waiting.

Our trip is in November and we still haven't booked airfare yet. I've seen some deals great for early November, but nothing good yet for late November. Southwest fares are out the end of June for our timeframe, so I'll be checking everything between now and then since our trip is exactly 6 months from today. If I don't see anything great, I'll still probably wait for a ding or a Jetblue sale.

I'm right there with you. We're going next April too. I've booked BCV already for that week, but we decided to take the kids out 2 days early and are going April 16th. I booked Delta one way, at 129.00 pp. The rest of the days so far, as you say, are outrageous already. Its pretty scary. I think what we'll end up doing is waiting for Jetblue,(and no cattle call, you get assigned seating) which should be coming out about Oct. or November or so for the return. Have you considered going down about Wednesday or so before vacation starts? Take a look at the 16th, its not too bad.

Central New York usually has the same April break as most of the northeast, but I just looked at the calendar, and our's is the week of the 14th next year. Hmmmm. I'm going to do a thread on the CB to see when people are having winter and spring breaks.

We went this past April vacationa dnwe flew jetBlue. The April fares came out at the end of July or beginning of August. You might need to play with your dates a little to get a decent fare. When we looked at the jetBlue fares - and this was the day they came out - going Sat-Sat of Apr vac week was $617 pp! There's no way we could do that. We ended up booking Mon-Mon, which was $327 pp - still higher than usual, but we expected to pay more for that week. The kids were happy that they got to miss an extra day of school too!

We're going Apr vac again in 2008. I'll be watching for jetBlue's fares to come out and we'll probably do Mon-Mon again.

I've never flown SW, so I can't help with that one.

I booked with Delta as well at $129.00. This being vacation week, I'm not taking a chance. For our trip last month (April vacation), I paid $400 pp, no assigned seat with Airtran the day their rates came out in November 2006. JetBlue was even more.

are there schools still on spring break this late in April 2008? We are flying out of LAX on April 24th, 2008, and I was hoping that it would be the end of spring break, since Easter is so early next year (in March!)

Yes Massachusetts schools are on spring break these days... very late next year.

Rats, this is not good news. I was hoping I'd hear better from Jetblue when they release their lowest fares. Did they stay consistently high the entire year all the way up to April?

What are your dates Sue? Ours are April 16th, returning on the 26th. I have no choice to return any other date, as we are going on points and we run out on that Saturday. We're also adding on a few days before that on cash. So the option to stay any later than that is out. Looks like a bunch of us will be watching these rates!

I am not sure that anyone answered this question. The answer is no. With Jet Blue you have assigned seats.

to further clarify, you choose your seats when you book, although you can change them at any time. as opposed to another economy airline which allows you to choose when you check-in (unless you pay an additional fee).

since they've started, they removed both the original front and back rows in their fleets. i believe the front has the most leg room now (that's been the latest change).

Many schools in the NE tradtiionally have two breaks in the second half of the school year - Feb or Midwinter break (around President's Day) and April or Spring break (second or third week of the month).

If Easter falls in March, schools usually just have a 3 day weekend.

The fares did stay high. I checked mine every day hoping they would go down and I could get a credit, but no such luck. They seemed to stay at what I paid for quite some time, but eventually they went up to $617 as well.

here in CA, we only have one spring break, usually either the week before or after Easter! Stupid question though...would spring break in the NE or East Coast in general affect airfare from the West Coast to Florida?

I think you'll be ok. We have friends in CA who met us in FL this past April. They had no problems getting decent airfare just a few months before the trip.

Spring Break in april in Ma. may be later in 2008 due the MCAS. which is state wide manditory test. . The makeup date which is state wide.. is April 18 which is a friday... That is usually the last day of our vacation but next yr. will be the day we start../end the week whatever.. Im guessing thats why our vacation is later.. Has nothing to do with other NE states.. though.

Where are you flying out of..?? Is it a direct flight? Everything I see out of logan on Friday the 18th is 1/stop... only non-stop is $299.. NO WAY.
