Jet Blue - Sneaks!

Did you check the prices for 1 passenger and then when you came to book entered 2 ? If there was only 1 seat left on the lower price, then asking for 2 tickets would have taken you to the next price point. Sometimes its better to book the tickets 1 at a time.

Oh yeah - I did that just to see what happened. I've done that with Southwest before.

I think what some people are missing here is that I get what they're saying. What I'm saying is, I don't believe that just when I happened to check, those 3 seats HAPPEN to be available, and then 5 minutes later, those 3 seats, which also happened to be the last ones available at that price, were bought.
It's not as if that date JUST opened up and there was a mad rush for it. Those dates have been on Jet Blue for months now. I just happened to check them yesterday.

So, what I'm saying is, I don't believe they DID sell the seats that were available at that price. I think they just decided to up the price. Of course, I don't know any of this for a fact, but if that was my luck yesterday, I'm really sorry I didn't buy a lottery ticket on the way home last night.

:confused3 So they upped the price -- so what? In today's deregulated market they are allowed to charge whatever price they want -- i.e., whatever the market will bear -- for those seats. There's nothing wrong with that, even though it may cost someone some frustration and provide fodder for another airfare complaint thread.

Which is all I'm doing.

Is that against the rules of the board? If we're to crucify everyone on here who simply wants to vent about something, we're gonna have a bloody mess on our hands.

OK, OK - So, what you're saying is, you wouldn't get upset if you went to Wal Mart today, saw a CD for $10, went to the ATM, came back 15 minutes later, and the same CD was $15?

I understand that there are only so many cheap seats available. I've been flying long enough to understand that. But your analogy would be like comparing a coach seat to a first class seat. There's absolutely no difference from one seat to another on a Jet Blue plane.

No I'm saying that the CD sold out and they wouldn't have any more of that CD until the sale was over so you would have to buy it another time at the higher price. You can view the differnt seat prices as different Items. I'm sure you could probably find the price you wanted on Jet Blue on a flight at a different time or day just not when and where you wanted it.

:charac2: Climb down off the cross... the wood can be put to better use elsewhere.

Nope - In that case, I'd just get a raincheck. :thumbsup2

But that's sort of my point. What the airlines can get away with, is certainly MUCH different than what most other industries can. But, I'm aware of that. Just venting is all.

I'm sorry, but why do you find it so hard to believe that someone else bought those seats in the 5 minutes you were away? If you hadn't had to go ask your wife, YOU would have bought the seats, so why is it so unbelievable to you that someone ELSE bought them?

Approximately 280 million people in the U.S., and you find it hard to believe that two of those people might be looking at the same seats on the same flight at the same time?

However, alot of us (myself included) accept alot of pricing schemes from airlines that we would NEVER accept from any other business.

Do you mean businesses like Disney World, that have a certain number of rooms set aside at discounted rates? Do you mean businesses like stores that have "limited quantity", "while supplies last" and "no raincheck" sales?

Imagine finding out your neghibor was paying $50 less a month on cable, for the exact same service, simply because they called first....

Please see examples above. It happens all the time, in all sorts of businesses. I used to work in a grocery store, and if something was marked incorrectly, we had to sell it for the price on the box or can, regardless of what the price should have been. That certainly didn't mean that anyone that brought up a can of peas got the lower price.

True.

However, Disney has a logical reason for that. They announce publicly, that AP holders get discounted rooms. They announce publicly, that there are AAA rates out there.

But you're right. Look at gas stations. You could pay $2.09 a gallon in the morning for gas, and your buddy could pay $1.99 for the same gas later that day.

And of those 280 million, how many of them were looking for a flight out of Boston to Orlando, on that exact date, at that exact time? And like I said, this is assuming that there were only those 3 seats left at that price. Again, sure it's possible. However, if it that was the case, like I said, I should have bought a lottery ticket that night.

I dunno - is that anything like finding out your sister is paying less and getting more free services than you because she lives in a more expensive neighborhood in the same city? :)

Ah, but the issue is, in those five minutes (or even at the same time you're looking), other potential passengers are checking fares on the same flights. If you check at 10 AM and see three seats at $79 each way, then call your wife to confirm your plans, and I check at 10:02 AM and see those same three seats at that same price, and proceed with my purchase, by the time you actually continue your transaction, I've bought up the last three $79 seats (or the last three $10 CDs). Now all that's left to purchase are the $130 seats or the $15 CDs.

Or you could have a rapport with the gas station guy and he tells you just to get enough gas for the day because they're getting a delivery the next morning and the price will go down :teeth:

Well, don't forget with the Big Dig nearing completion , 800,000 people are now within a forty minute drive of Logan Airport. It's not completely inconceivable that yeah, somebody else was looking for tickets on the same airline for the same date around the same time you were searching. But yeah, why didn't you buy a lottery ticket that day? :)

OK, let's all go buy lottery tickets now or better yet let's drive up to NH and buy powerball tickets, jackpot is around $350 million!!! If we win we never have to worry about getting those last discounted tickets on Jet Blue coz we'll own our own jet!!!
