DH just heard on the radio that the CFO quit Thursday due to lack of maintenance on the planes. Now he's scared to fly Thursday!

Can't find info on this anywhere online. DH said CFO had tons of negative comments to say about Jet Blue. (which is not surprising if you quit)

Anyone hear anything???

(I'm not "scared" to fly, just curious since I love the airline)

thanks,
Mare

We fly JEtblue on Wednesday THANKS A LOT.

Every news story on Google touts the company line ".. left to persue other interests" ..

Interestingly.. this is the not the first time he has resigned from JetBlue. He left to join another start-up a few years back and then rejoined JetBlue.

I can't find a single story about him saying anything about maintenance issues.

I am a TERRIBLE flyer. Hate it, kids know I hate it and if I didn't mention it yet, I truly hate to fly.
I fly JetBlue on November 25 and this will just add to my worries every time I hear a loud noise :guilty:

Just think happy thoughts. That's what Tink would tell you!

:scared1:

This isn't funny. I am scared to death of flying and I just booked our March trip with Jetblue. I have to take nerve pills to calm myself down before I get on a plane and have to sit near a window and now I read this. This isn't good and am now nervous as ....!!!!!!!! Kids have never been on a plane before this will be there first trip. Maybe I shouldn't read this transportation thread until after my trip.:headache: :headache: :headache:

LOL, Thank you. I will be thinking of you and Tink in a couple of weeks.
Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts LOL

I have flown Jetblue 6 times in four years, and the only time there was maintenance issues was when the Direct TV service was broken for the first of a set of connecting flights, and Jetblue gave us each $10 credit for it.

I flew Air Canada once and spent three hours stuck on a tarmac at MCO due to a maintenance issue, they had to fly some guy down from Montreal, because it was a Canadian owned airplane, oyva.

I now fly Jetblue only and drive two hours each way to do so, including crossing and international boarder.

I wonder what a CFO would have to do with maintenance problems. Maybe they were spending to much on parts.

Anyone in the executive suite that leaves "to pursue other interests" was terminated and given a happy description for it.

Given that reality, do you expect him to say anything positive? I fly them home Wednesday on a cross country red eye and I'm not losing sleep over something the ex-CFO may have said (I doubt he really did though or he would lose his severance).

US airlines are highly regulated as to what they maintain and how they maintain it. I wouldn't worry a lot about maintenance. If our air traffic control system was as highly regulated and overseen, we wouldn't be hearing about air traffic congestion and need to update 25 year old radar systems. Take a deep breath and forget about this.

You have that slightly wrong, from a retired Air Traffic Controller, me. The ATC system is over regulated and sometimes drives off the best controllers that are available.

The age of the radar units shouldn't be that much concern and most ATC facilities have modern equipment. I would challenge you to tell me a facility that has 25 year old radar equipment. I still play on a PC game that has the current radar available and radar still shows the same image we used 25 years ago, with just added enhancements. You tell the pilot to turn, climb or descend and he better do it.

When I worked the skies were considered overcrowded and there was no GPS. Today GPS has influenced the way air traffic control is worked. How many accidents have you heard about that air traffic control was a cause of.

It is usually maintenance or pilot error that causes aircraft accidents. The AA flight out of New York that lost its tail. The accident in South America between the two planes, pilot at the wrong altitude. The continental or allegiant in central Florida landing with no gear. The plane overshooting the runway in Canada because his reverse thrusters didn't work. The private plane in central Florida bursting in flames over Sanford. None of those accidents were ATC fault.

A CFO is the Chief Financial Officer. He would have nothing to do with maintenance.

Here is the article from USA TODAY, no mention of any maintenance issues. I live in the NYC area home of Jetblue and not a word of any issues with them.
I would not worry ....this is a wallstreet $$$$$ issue

Resignation of JetBlue CFO has Wall Street talking
JetBlue CFO John Harvey has resigned from his position at the airline, citing "other, unspecified professional interests after 18 months on the job," The Wall Street Journal (subscription required) reports. "[Mr. Harvey] has been considering his next professional step for some time," JetBlue spokeswoman Alison Eshelman tells the Journal. Ed Barnes, a senior vice president in finance and principal accounting officer, will fill Harvey's position on an interim basis, according to the Journal.

Forbes.com says Credit Suisse analyst David McKenzie called Harvey's departure a "messy" event for JetBlue. "Two sudden, sequential management changes … this year raises questions of leadership stability at JetBlue," McKenzie adds. Morningstar analyst Marisa Thompson tells Reuters "shareholders are perceiving that there has been a lot of management turnover in the last three years. They have to wonder if there is an undercurrent of issues for the company that is propelling these changes at the top level."

You're not helping!!!!!!!!! :lmao: :lmao:

For those of you about to board JetBlue flights....deep breath....think "soon I'll be in Disney".....you'll be fine!

I find it AMAZING that the CFO is now considered an EXPERT in maintenance???? How did he get this skill???

(I am an accountant, trust me NOTHING we do has anything to do with maintenance LOL!)

ALL airlines and the maintence is overseen by the FAA. This is one area where the FAA does a very good job. I would not let this unconfirmed rumor bother me (does the OPs DH listen to Fox News... Just a one of thier goodies.... Challenger was shot down by terrorists. Umm.... don't think so since (A) the chances of them having anything that could shoot that far and that fast are SLIM. We never really got Star Wars to work and (B) the person who gave them this fact turned out to be a janitor... so called "inside souce at NASA LOL!)

I fly a A LOT. Three flights so far this week, three to go. Maintenace is the least of my worries. THe thing Edd failed to point out is that if there ever is an accident a TREMENDOUS amount of time and money goes into finding out WHY and putting maintence protocols in place to make sure it never happens again. The FAA even monitors accidents in foreign countries to make sure that the issue could not be prevented here by maintenance.

My Grandfather worked for an airline. He once told me that the "Safest" airline is the one where they either have management issues or an accident since the FAA CAMPS out in your hangers then... So figure this "rumor" will actually make you safer as the FAA races off to calm fears.

You have that slightly wrong

Only slightly. I'll clarify to add that the ATC system uses 1960's era software from the punch card era. They use 1980's era closed loop network systems (hardware based).

You are correct that the physical radar is much newer, but the software is from Raytheon circa 1968 and the networks from BBN circa 1982. Both of those have been updated to run on newer hardware and in more open environments, but the code and circuit boards in the core of most of it all are ancient and do fail on occasion (recent NH center outage as an example).

Thankfully the systems are redundant and overlap so safety is not much of an issue in a single node failure.

Don't even the new systems fail on occasion? Because the software system is not new does it mean that it doesn't work? Most of the government and corporations work with mainframes and software built and developed from the 1960's up and they don't seem to have any problem running. I think it is great to be able to talk about what is in development or is on the market, but alas you have to pay for it.

I am sure much of the new software is being integrated into the systems now where the needs exist, but I think it is faulty to say the whole system needs revampment because the software is outdated. I am sure there are parts of the ATC program that can work perfectly well on existing systems and than there are parts that need the new equipment. I am sure you can't say the whole system needs the new updates immediately to provide efficient service.
