Jet Blue Luggage Size

How picky is Jet Blue when it comes to luggage size for both carry on and checked?

With fewer flights, so more people on the current flights, and with more people doing carry on only, plus with airlines needing to make money anywhere they can, all airlines are getting very picky about both luggage weight and size. You'd better measure and weigh your bags before you leave home. When measuring be sure to include the handles, any bulges after the bag is packed, and the wheels.

Very. Check and make sure your baggage measurements fit the parameters.

Not just the measurements but the weight. When you put your bag up it records on a digital scale. Even if your bag is within the allowed measurements, if it's overweight, you'll be charged.

This is from JetBlues site. I would first check to see which kind of aircraft you are flying on. If its an airbus its bigger 3 seats/aisle/3 seats and you can bring the larger carry on, etc. JetBlue has one of the best baggage policies allowing 26" for carry on! Alot of airlines are about 21"-22". When measuring a bag put it on the floor and measure up from the floor to the top. (sometimes people forget about the wheels which can take 1-2")

Carry-on RequirementsEach customer may bring one bag that fits in the overhead bin plus one personal item (purse, briefcase, laptop, etc.) that fits under the seat in front of you.

Your personal item must not exceed 18"l x 15"w x 8"h. In order to fit under the seat in front of you.

To fit in the overhead bin, your item must not exceed:
for our Airbus A320: 26 inches length x 18 inches width x 12 inches height
for our EMBRAER 190: 24 inches length x 16 inches width x 10 inches height

Checked Baggage Requirements
Free Baggage Allowance
Each customer may bring one bag free of charge.

Each bag must NOT exceed 62 inches in overall dimensions (length + width + height) and CANNOT exceed 50 pounds

Like the PP stated, JB uses different size planes and you need to know which you are flying to abide by those rules.

BTW: they will weigh your bags both at the airport and at the resort! That I know for sure!

I've flown on JB out of JFK many times - always by carry-on only - and they have never checked my carry-on by size or weight (I probably just jinxed myself for my next trip). Never on return trips either.

If you're flying out of JFK I'm guessing its usually the airbus A320 since JFK is their hub. So with the bigger planes you can carry on a 26" suitcase & personal item... my guess is your suitcase is just about that size.

We always fly jetblue and can do 10 days to DIsney or Caribbean/mexico in a carry on & back pack... our carry on is only 21" including wheels. 26" is a pretty good size to allow for carryon :lovestruc

And because JetBlue's carry-on limit is 26", it is only reasonable (and fair to all passengers) that they be relatively strict with that measurement.

Twenty-six inches including wheels and handle will fit wheels-in or -out in the overhead compartment, three bag per. If your carry-on is larger than that, it would either tend to go in sideways (using 50% more room than expected/intended) or it might need to be gate-checked.

Actually, I have a 21" carry-on with wheels, and I bring a backpack. My BF has a 22" duffel and a backpack, but they have NEVER checked our size or weight for either size JB plane. And what bugs me is that I follow the rules, but I see people with the larger luggage with the pockets overstuffed & watch them push and shove and jam their bags into the overhead - and nobody ever checks the size (even though they're CLEARLY over the size of that small box they have at the gate for you to measure your bag).:confused3

You should write to JetBlue with your observations - seriously. Don't whine, don't complain... don't even identify a specific airport if you don't want. But if enough passengers contact them about an issue, maybe they'll change something.
