Hi All,

Still recovering here in NY from the ice storm. We were all set to leave today, but just learned our flight is cancelled.

We are booked at GCH using DVC points, if they let me switch them (Please God) Should I book for:

The week before Easter? (Arrive April 1st?)

Will the crowds be a nightmare? I am a high school teacher so I need to go during a school break...

I guess everything happens for a reason. (I keep telling myself that hoping I'll believe it!);)

So very sorry to hear that! What a disappointment, but at least I'm sure DVC is working with you.

We are also teachers, and the week before Easter would be pretty torturous. If possible, I'd go with the week you get out of school in June. If you're like NJ was, you get out around the third week. That is later than we get out here, but I'd prefer it, personally. The weather out here would be more predictable in June, and you could definitely get in a beach day or two if you wanted.

Either way---rebook! Whenever you come it will be magical.

I agree with Patti. I would try to rebook for summer. I suspect the week before Easter will be CRAZY busy with spring breakers (that's when our kids are out for Spring Break).

Summer (June) will still be busy but more doable, especially if you hit the parks early.

Boy, that's a HUGE BUMMER about your flight!:sad1: I hope everything works out for you!:wizard:

Thanks for the replies.:)

I've learned reading the DVC manual that my points will expire just prior to our summer break. It all has to do with use years (When you receive a new allotment of DVC points)

It seems it is now use them in April or loose them. I am going to call DVC when they open at 1:00 pm. Maybe they will try to work something out.

The week before Easter will be better than losing the points completely. (I hope!)

You must have a May use year? Actually, that would be a good use year for a teacher because you have a new allotment of points to use starting at the beginning of summer, when teachers have some well-deserved time off.

As far as use them or lose them, I would USE THEM!:cool1: Just use your best touring expertise that week (be at the parks by opening time, make good use of fastpasses, take a break for swimming/relaxing and maybe a nice dinner and some shopping at DTD, and then possibly back to the park at night for fireworks).

I hope you can reschedule, and then have an AWESOME SPRING BREAK!:woohoo:

All rescheduled for April 1st - April 4th. I was surprised that there was availability, since it is expected to be such a busy week! DVC was very helpful in changing the reservations.

As far as JET BLUE, they rebooked our flights and will also be offering compensation for the SNAFU. It could never be worth it, whatever they offer, but at least we get to go. There are worse things than a cancelled trip.:)

That's great to hear!

I agree, that is surprising that there was availability. Maybe the thought of spring break crowds are keeping people away that week.:rotfl:

Were you able to get a room at the GC, or did you have to change to the DLH or PP?

I was able to book the exact same accomodations. We are staying at GCH first and then at the Marriot in San Diego. The trip will wind up costing about $1,000 more because of the peak dates and the hotel costs, but I am expecting that this will all work itself out in another way. You know when one door closes, another one opens. So, I will wait and see how the loss is recovered. You never know.:)

Will the weather be better at Easter than during Presidents week? I hope so!

Great news that you could rebook! :cool1: :cool1:

I admit it was a bummer that your flight was canceled but I live by the same "everything happens for a reason" motto. You're going to have a great time in April. Yes, it will be busy but so would this weekend. And as we always say A busy day in DL is better than any regular day by far!:thumbsup2

Mich Mouse,
We've been to DL a couple of times during Spring Break (it's always the week before Easter for us). Our experience was it was busy, but the crowds were manageable until Friday right before Easter.
Having said that, I am surprised at the number of my east coast friends who are making DL their location of choice for spring break this year. :) (Maybe all the attention from the 50 year anniversary?:confused3 )
I hope you have a wonderful time and the crowds are good for you.
