Jet Blue Boarding Procedure?

Please refresh or correct my memory, we flew JB once about 5 yrs ago. Once again we're out of EWR and I'm guessing we can check-in online 24 hrs ahead? Once there, is it by zone, row, free for all?

First boarders are wheelchairs. Then the Even More boarding priority seats and exit rows. Then anyone with young children or who needs time boarding the plane. Then they board by rows, starting from the back. Usually the ones I'm on board Rows 20 and higher, then the rest of the plane (they aren't large planes). I pick seats in the back of the plane so I haven't heard what boards after Row 20 and higher lately.

This is at airports where all boarding is via the front of the plane. At an airport such as Long Beach, where they may also board from the rear, you may hear different rows called first.

same as above - but when we flew JetBlue a few months ago, they over booked the plane.

JetBlue asked if anyone could fly out the next day, Sunday - same flight time and would give them a $500 voucher to use on any Jet Blue flight in the future.

JetBlue needed 10 people to be ousted from our flight.
6 nice, kind, people came forward and accepted the offer.
4 more people were needed. The saga goes on.

JetBlue started to board the plane.
First to board, anyone who needed assistance. Then families with children under the age of 2.

Then Jet Blue said, they would remove from the list of people who could board the plane the family who were last to book their tickets.
The fireworks started....

The back of the plane boarded first. JetBlue informed who would be the ousted family, no $500 vouchers, only new flight, since it was not voluntary. The family who was ousted began to get a bit angry. They had a wedding to go to the next day.

The middle of the plan boarded.

Then the fireworks took off. The husband of the family banged his fist loud and hard on the table, papers flew off, yelling began. Security was called.

Everyone, I mean any row who was not called, immediately got in line and boarded the plane.

I am not sure what happened to the husband or family who did not board our flight to MCO. I hope they calmed down and accepted the flight the next day.

This scenario can happen on almost any airline. But overbooking by 10 is pretty extreme. I can't tell you how many times I hear the "we're in an overbooked situation.....".

Thanks for the info. I'm one of 'those' who gets up in time to checkin a full 24 hrs out. Our flight is 6:15, I'll be online at 6:10, and we arrive the full 2 hrs before flight.

Do you have your seats selected already? What's the upside to checking in online?

We always use curbside check in to drop off our bags and get our boarding passes. If our flight is very early (before curbside's operating hours), we just go to the ticket counter and check in.

We always select our seats when we book to stay together and to choose a row that loads early, the better to get space for our carry-on in the overhead. We check in online ASAP because that often determines when you load . USAir, which we used to Myrtle Beach last month lets you on earlier, the earlier you checkin. On that flight, some double-booked passengers got the boot involuntarily bast on when they checked in and when thet got to the gate. We book, checkin and get through security as early as possible.

Since this is my 1st Jet Blue encounter - if I checkin online and print boarding pass,then do security, do I have to also checkin at the gate desk or just wait till my section is called for boarding? If you do the online checkin, you can print out a boarding pass at that time. You will be asked how many bags you are checking. If you are, in fact, checking a bag(s), you will still have to go to the counter to check the bag. Then, it's off to security.
BUT..if you aren't checking a bag, and you do online checkin, you can go right to the security area.

If you have your boarding pass, have gone thru security, you then do not have to check in at the gate desk. The only reason you need to speak to them, is to change your seating assignment if you don't like it.

Interesting. That's the first I've ever heard of jetBlue overselling a flight.

On their website, JetBlue states PAX involuntarily denied boarding shall receive $1,300.
