Jesus wasn't resurrected

Totally OT... but for some reason, I thought this thread was about KIRK Cammeron... and I was going to say I could give a rats behind about what Mike Seaver has to say about religion.. ;)

Guess you shouldn't watch the Left Behind movies then. :)

Well, I wouldn't be a Christian if Jesus didn't raise from the dead.

I wouldn't worship someone b/c he was a good teacher. There were plenty of good teachers in history but I don't worship them.

I worship Jesus because he was the only teacher that was also God.

I obviously don't believe that Cameron's claims have any weight at all, but I think it's dangerous for christians to think "Well, if he's right, it won't make any difference" because really the fact that Jesus was God and raised from the dead makes all the difference.

I agree.

There is nothing wrong with being a Pharasee..Pharasees are the founders of Rabbinial Judaism..It is the NT that goves Pharasees a bad name..They are held in high regard within Judaism.

In a few of the sermons I have preached I have mentioned that we really need to ease up on the Pharisee bashing. I point out that we would love to have a few Pharisees as members of our congregation -- I'm sure they were regular attenders at worship; I expect they followed the laws on giving the firstfruits to G-d and would be outstanding congregational council members.

I was responding to your assertion that people attack non-Christians and no one calls them on it. I have and do. I just don't have the time or energy to do it constantly.

I was saying nobody jumps on people who point out that non-Christians have been rude. I took a lot of heat IMO for simply pointing out that a couple people really trashed this thread with their rude - my brand of Chrisianity is right and the rest are wrong - spiel when nobody even was going there.

I guess I just do not see the love in being sledgehammered by others for what is my own personal religious beliefs. It leaves me wondering how good a belief system could it be if the only way to get members is to scream about how anyone without a valid card will go straight to hell, no matter what they have done with their lives. The devil, hell, all of that just seems like a convenient way to make people run to the church out of fear.

I really have not seen many arguments about why Christianity is so wonderful and here are loving, positive, happy reasons to belong. But perhaps that is just because I have not met the right people.

Wow, you haven't met the right people. Ok, let's see.....here are my loving, positive, happy reasons....or at least as many as I can think of in the minute I have to type this.....

God is forgiving. He loves us so much that he will forgive us for anything if we ask him. His Love for us is like a father' love for his child (ofcourse, we ARE His children) it doesn't matter what we do, he still loves us and yearns for us to come back to him. How awesome is that? No matter how bad we screw up, He's there.

Christ dies on a cross for us. Think about that. It reminds me how my mother would say "I love you so much I would do anything for you, I would throw myself in front of a train for you" That's how much Christ loved us. He died on a cross for us. God sent his only son to do this for us.

Christians are called to love thy neighbor. We try to see the good in everyone. This is like the best stress and anger managment there is. Someone cuts me off in traffic, I could say a swear word and throw them a crude gesture and still feel angry and steamed, but instead I smile and wave and remember that God loves them too. They are one of his children. Anger gone. Incident over, more time to enjoy my day.

There are really yummy donuts in the fellowship hall after Mass.

Death is not scarey. We believe that Heaven is more joyous than a human can comprehend. I don't know about you, but that gives me immense peace.

If you sneeze, it's much easier to say (and spell) "God Bless you" than it is to say "Kazuntite"

You get to send Christmas cards!

Even if you have lost your parents, you still have a Fathers Love.

You always have someone to talk to. You are never alone.

Anyone want to pick up where I left off?

Thank you, but of course with the exception of Jesus, every other religion can say the same things. :) Heck, I send Christmas cards, and I am not "Christian" per se. Buddhists practice mindful living. They live each day seeing and feeling gods grace around them. I think that is as valid as mindfully living and seeing Jesus's grace around us.

And I can honestly say, that the whole dying on the cross thing... I am not really sure I want to worship a God that would require that sort of sacrifice. I understand that was supposed to be him showing love, but ... erk... I just cannot get past that. Does not seem like a kind loving god to me.

Why is anyone supprised about what that sleezebag does? After his racist pathetic Titanic film he is clearly unable to make any film with any intergety. The film company actually paid money into the charity founded in the name of the second officer Murdoch after he made out that he was a murderer and a suicide. Despite the fact that survivors said he was a bulldog of a character and a complete hero.

This made news across the pond as well. There are so many people saying so many things it's hard to know what and who to believe. After all, Many people think that they have a big clue into something major that happened into Christianity (er, Da Vinci Code??) but often just get ignored anyway.

Let's just say "Next Person" and move on. :thumbsup2

I guess if the Bible was more open about different ways of coming to God and it didn't seem so (what is quite blunt IMO) about Jesus christ, I think less Christians would seem so "matter of fact, please think about your decision very seriously, this is why I believe there is only one way and not many paths to God".
But the majority of the Bible is about a group of people who had never heard of Jesus Christ, didn't believe in Him, didn't ask Him to be their Savior, etc. It's hard for me to say the Bible is narrowly focused on Jesus Christ, when most of it, and most of the people in it, commune with God without having ever heard of Jesus Christ.

Jesus said that he was "the way". Many Christians take that to mean that Jews and Muslims and Buddhists are all going to burn in Hell. But Jesus did not say that. It's one thing for people to say, "Jesus said He is the way; I think that means Buddhists are going to burn in Hell". It's another thing to say, "Jesus said Buddhists are going to burn in Hell."

Personally, I don't think the fundamental message of Christianity is that if you don't say a salvation prayer to Jesus, you are going to burn in Hell. If that were the message, wouldn't Christ have said it?

James Cameron...that pinnacle of Hollywood integrity.

But he is getting the 15 minutes of fame back, after it all tanked once the Titanic thing was over.

And doing it during Lent...nice touch.;)

But let's let the media do their thing, let's let all the folks who don't believe say "see I told you so".

Let's not tell them that "resurrected" doesn't necessarily mean that His body in human form was brought up to Heaven, because that's probably too abstract of a concept for them to understand.

Let's not tell them that if Jesus was God made flesh, in human form, that it wouldn't necessarily surprise anyone if He were married...as a matter of fact, it wouldn't faze most people one bit, at least not most people I know who are Catholic/Christian...but it also wouldn't change the sacrifice He made.

Meanwhile, I'll still go to church on Sunday. And James Cameron will live his "Hollywood" lifestyle.

And in the end...I'll be better off.;)

And in the end...I'll be better off.;)

Why, how very non-judgemental of you. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Yeah, I'm sure James Cameron is just all torn up about his tens-of-millions of dollars, his lifestyle that allows him to live pretty much any way he chooses, and his failure with Titanic....the largest grossing movie in history. :rotfl:

So, James Cameron doesn't believe in ghosts (or probably the boogie man or tooth fairy, either), and this makes him Hollywood sleaze? :confused3 Wow.

Let's not tell them that "resurrected" doesn't necessarily mean that His body in human form was brought up to Heaven, because that's probably too abstract of a concept for them to understand.

Well several posters in this thread have said that resurrection does indeed mean His body in human form was brought up to heaven, and that their belief that this is true is a major aspect of their faith.

Posters in this thread have said they would not worship a Jesus who was not resurrected.

So what are you saying about them?

Right, because we all know anyone who is not christian is too dumb to understand abstract concepts? What a lovely thing to say!

Just to be nitpicky about theological terms here:

Jesus' resurrection was his return from the dead. His ascension is when his human body was brought up to Heaven.

Ahh, the true "Christian" spirt on display.

You can't make this stuff up.

Possible Bible verse of the day:

Ephesians 4:29-32

29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

:sad2: That's really all I can say about that. I was taught that God is the only omnipotent and all-knowing being. If that's true, then only God would know the contents of any human heart and would be in a position to say who is better off....
