Diners-Dh 33, Ds 23 mos, Myself 31

February 28 - OHANA'S
We had 6:40pm adr's, this would be our first dinner at Ohana's as adults-and the first time ever for my ds. We arrived at 6:30, and were checked in by a hostess there that looked just like Paula Deen from the Food Network. She could easily be her sister, but a thinner version. She had that same cool looking salt n pepper hair Paula has, but more of a spiked out updated hairstyle. It was on that night, more so then I would have thought for a Tuesday night. But we still managed to get a seat right before the bar area, and only sat for maybe 10 minutes. Just enough time for us to look at the drink menu & decide that we were'nt going to get anything besides a soft drink. We were taken to our seat by our cousin somebody, cant remeber his name, and along the way shown all of the desserts, and meat choices. We had a great table, far enough away from the coconut races-but off the center enough to see the Castle without leaving our seats. The waiter was there very fast to take our drink orders, and then our cousin Mike came right behind him with the wings, wontons, and salad. He explained all the taste of the dipping sauces, and suggested what meats would be great with each. My ds, who is a royal crank with food (anything that isn't a chocolate chip granola bar, oatmeal, bacon, bread, spaghetti, watermelon, or grapes is poison) was the first to dive into the wontons. We all agreed that the wontons were great, and that the peanut sauce was the best of the 3 with these. We tried the salad and agreed that it had a good taste, but didn't want to waste good stomach space on salad with all of the meat we were in store for. So onto the wings, I needed nothing else after trying these. They were so good, sticky-but not soggy. How do they acheive that? The wings had a almost crispy outside, and not soft and wet from the sauce. Just perfect. My husband thought that the wings were good, but had a sweetness that he didn't expect. He's crazy anyway-so disregard his thought, these wings were the best thing out of the apps. We were onto the shrimp, and I know that some people have issues with the shrimp still having the shells on them. Not us, we are shrimp eaters-and the shell for us is just the perfect place for the flavor goodness to hang out and intensify. So with that being said, yes it was on. We all, even my cranky ds, ate all of the shrimp until they were gone. By this time there were 3 birthday anoouncements going on around us in a perfect semi circle. My ds was amused with the entertainment, the lady that was singing struck his fancy; alot. He keep his eye on her, and caught her attention. She blew him kisses everytime she came around our way, and he was so in love with her. So much so that all of his pearly whites were on display everytime he heard her coming. He loves her! Then without a second to breath, here comes the meat. There was beef, turkey, and pork. The beef was my least favorite meat. It was very undercooked, and slightly salty I thought.(I dont eat salt, at all, and maybe this would have been ok for a person that normally eats with salt-but for me so salty) The pork was good, tender and seasoned to perfection. No sauce necessary with this one. The turkey was my favorite, not at all dry like some have noted. Just perfect. This I had about 5 pieces of, and baby crank ds-2. My husband was partial to the beef and pork. Both he ate with the peanut sauce, and loved. He ate alot, I have no idea how much exactly-but lets just say that he got his money worth and then some. This is were our visit gets a bit long, there was no more drink refills for about 15-20 minutes. Mike was all over the place, MIA for like 15-20 minutes. Then he comes back with refills in tow, and dessert as well. I then tell him that we wanted the snowball bucket for the baby-and he grabs it and is back in a flash. We dive into the bread pudding, and some how find space in our bloated over-extended stomachs to eat it all! This was just so good, not too sweet-not too wet...some how better then what my southern grandparents have made for me for years. Absolutely the best dessert the whole trip! But while we are in a slight dessert coma, and our ds has made a complete and utter mess of the table and the floor, we notice that we didn't have our potatoes or our vegetables. The horror, what were we thinking about! My Irish-potato loving husband went into a slight shock when he saw the majesty that is the Ohana's potato. So right away he says "Tiff, we didn't get that..what happened?". This guy is a cop for goodness sake, it's not rocket science Columbo! We got shafted..Mike has slipped off! He has commited the ultimate sin as far as he was concerned. I calm him down and advise him that although we a sickly full, and 5 pounds heavier, (a piece), that I will request that we get them. So the drink guy comes along with the bill, and I give him the story and he is so sorry ,yadda yadda- Yeah thanks, can you get this guy his potatoes? (only kidding) But I did agree with him to bring some out, so he did-and we loved them. Great food, great atmosphere, a must do for us.

I'm glad that you enjoyed Ohana, I did too. :goodvibes I would of probably been in shock too for the potatoes, I love them so much. I could make a meal of just the potatoes and chicken wings. I hope there are more reviews to come.

Loved your review. We are going here for the first time in Juen. Can't wait!!

What is a snowball bucket?

Thanks!

The snowball bucket is actually a beach bucket, that has shaved ice with rainbow syrup across the top. It comes with the little shovel, it great fun for the kids. And for me, as I am just a big kid myself. Its really just the novelty of it all that is great. The cost was $4.99, but was given to our ds at no charge. Maybe because we were on the dining plan, I'm not sure. :thumbsup2

We loved the new menu at 'ohana. My kids and DH loved the potatoes, as did I. Didn't care for the rice that used to be there at all. I liked the shrimp too. Yes, a little messy but so good. Dessert was very good too, although I did really like that pineapple too. Glad you had a great time, thanks for the review!

Thanks , I didn't care for Ohanna's that much.

March 1, 06 - Magic Kingdom

The Main Street Bakery was the place for our first meal of the day. We decided to go there for a quick breakfast, as we are not normally breakfast people (myself and ds anyway). Since my dh was so famished, and it had been a whole 10 hours since he had his last big meal at Ohana's, we ended up in the Bakery. My dh decided that he wanted the breakfast croissant sandwhich, and he thought that it was average at best. Definately not worth the almost $6 that it would have cost if we didn't use a counter service for sure. I decided on the french toast loaf after hearing so much about it from this site, and seeing the pictures that someone posted. This selection was perfect for me, as it was just enough for a light breakfast. The loaf had a crunchy top, with more moist layers on the way down, and a delightfully crisp bottom. You would think that the loaf would be a wet mess at the bottom layer, but I beleive that it was the best part of the loaf for sure. My ds actually ate some of this with me to my surprise, but was so happy with the grapes he cried for in the bakery. My little pumpkin does the happy hum when he is truley enjoying what he is eating, and he was at his best while eating those grapes! We were pleasantly shocked to find out that we could use only 1 counter service for the Sandwhich, french toast loaf, and a fountain drink. With the grapes, and apple juice we got for my ds being 2 snack credits. We thought that this was a great affordable choice for our MK breakfast, and would definately do this again.
Lunch/Counter Service - Casey's Corner
This place we always go to, and wouldn't miss it while at the Kingdom. So while we were planted on the curb waiting for the parade to start, my ds proclaimed himself again hungry. So here we go again! We already knew that lunch was going to be at Casey's-so off I went to pick it up while they saved our spaces on the curb. We both got the same thing, except for dessert. We got the hot dogs with melted cheese sauce & ketchup, french fries also with cheese, dh a brownie, me Cracker Jacks, and 2 Sprites. This was awesome as usual, and very filling. Ds ate grapes from breakfast, Cracker Jacks, and a chocolate chip granola bar from his backpack. He guzzled down about 16 ounces of my Sprite, and added his own brand of back wash to the rest of it! This I find out after I take a great big pull on what I thought was just ice and Sprite. So nasty...I just look at this kid, and wonder why it is that he has mastered the straw concept at 10 months(I swear he went right from the bottle at 10 months to the straw), and now forgets as soon as he gets his fill. By now I should now this, because we always just say "That's so Conner". Like clock work he contaminates any food, or beverage he has once he has had his fill. So, we enjoy our meals and watch the parade.
Dinner/ LTT
We check in for our adr's right on time, and wait maybe 5 minutes before we are announced to the whole place as hailing from New York. This was cool actually, and then we were seated to the left of the building on the second landing area. Dh takes his seat, and then I leave to go to the wash room to clean our hands and faces from the long day that we had at the Kingdom. We get back and the waitress had the high chair set up & drinks flowing. My dh knows me well, so he ordered me Birch beer (which was so good), 2% milk for my Ds, and Sprite for himself. She then bought out these awesome rolls with honey butter, and a salad with this dressing that we all disliked. But the rolls were IT-Crispy outside, soft inside, warm & perfect with the honey butter. My ds was in full hum by the time he took his second bite, "That's so Conner" :) . Then our waitress comes back with all of the dinner items, Turkey, beef, mac & cheese, string beans, stuffing, and gravy. The turkey was so good, just as great as Ohana's-but on a different level. It was tender, flavorful, and moist like I've never had it before. The beef was good also, flavorful but a non issue since I taste the turkey first. The mac & cheese was not good, and it is was so orange. More so then the box stuff, I mean just orange and very loose and watery. WHY? But the stuffing is too good-with the turkey its my mothers house on Thanksgiving day...for real! So I depart from all items except the turkey & stuffing. Wait, there was homemade mashed potatoes also-they were proclaimed the best he has ever had by my dh. And this is including my version - is he nuts! But they were that good, just a different style then mine-not necessarily better. By this time my ds ate half a roll, 2 to 3 spoons of the mac & cheese (why!), 2 o 3 spoons of mashed, and 1 string bean. Goofy, Minnie, Chip and Dale were at our table 3 times each, or more. And the place was packed-so this was great if your child loves these characters..mine does. So now that dinner is over, and my husnabd gets refills of the mashed, and turkey..my ds is sleepy and cranking big time in the high chair. He now is clawing at me so bad that he has snapped my button on my polo shirt, and has gone through the whole spectrum of red shades. So I take him out, and he is now drooling on my un-buttoned polo shirt within 2 minutes. Minnie comes over to wipe his mouth, and take another picture with him while he sleeps..it was too sweet. So he totally missed the dessert, it was this apple crumb cobbler thing with vanilla ice cream. I was full, and didn't really give it a chance..but I'm sure it was good..as dh ate alot of it-and by the way he is not a warm fruit type of guy. So it had to be good. We loved this meal the most of the whole trip.

Great detailed reviews...you've made me hungry now :lmao: Off for a snack,

Claire xx

February 28 - Earl of Sandwhich

Since we arrived at about 11 am, and spent a little time manuevering stroller, luggage, and ds from the arrival terminal, to the luggage pick-up carousel, and finally to the alamo parking lot to select our suv..we decided that it was way too early to check into the resort-and being a little hungry, we decided that we would pass some time at DTD and try out the hot spot Earl of Sandwhich. We got a great spot to park, and strolled ds over to the EOS. The store front was all that I expected, and it was really jumping at the time that we arrived (probably about 1 or so). The menu was short and sweet, and really hard to decide which of the great sandwhiches we would try. So dh says The Club, and retreats to the outside table to claim a spot for us (It was that busy). While the line extended beyond the last rope, and at the right of the order register - it was a very fast moving line. I think maybe 8 minutes before I ordered. I went with the All American-Chocolat chip cookie-root beer, dh The club-brownie-Sprite-potato salad. We payed for this meal, as it was affordable, and we wanted to use our cs points wisely. It was about 16-17 dollars, well spent I should note. The All American was great-turkey, cranberries, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, some sort of grain bread (outstanding), minus the buttermilk ranch. (why buttermilk ranch? why?) I hate wet food, hate it. So I had to ask for the ranch not to be added, and it was the perfect combination as far as I was concerned. The sandwhich was toasted, and it was just big enough to feed myself and my ds. He would only indulge in the turkey & bread though.."That's so Conner"-a plain Jane type of Kid! But he ate it, we couldn't beleive it. Dh loved his club, and thought that it was the best sandwhich he had in a long time. We thought that it was going to be a different version of a Quiznos sandwhich, but oh was it so much more. Make this a must for your visit to DTD, you will not be mad at it at all! And this is from a New Yorker that has tried them all...excellent sandwhich, service, atmosphere, and price. The brownie was great, the cookie I just ate yesterday-awesome, and the soda was just that. This was to be the 1st of 3 stops at the Earl..I know, but it is really that good! :thumbsup2
