Thursday, November 6
Cast of characters: Me, DW Marci, DD-8 Jen, MIL
Location: Rented condo at Windsor Palms
Time: November 1-9 including drive time to and from NJ
Another ungodly humid day in Central Florida. Time for AK today. We did the safari first (doesn't everyone). The animals were very active - our driver commented several times that some of the nocturnal animals were out and how unusual it was to be seeing them. Even the lion was awake and moving around - we usually just see him sleeping on the rock.
From there, we headed over to Asia for Kali River Rapids. I sat that one out as I'm not a huge fan of getting soaked and walking around in wet clothes all day. Then back to Harambe for a mid-morning snack - danish and cinnamon buns from Kusafiri - YUM! We picked up a couple of things at Mombasa Marketplace, then moved on to ITTBAB. Personally, I love the 3-D films but I could do without the in-seat effects.
Off to DinoLand. Jen and I rode Primeval Whirl. That is a fun ride. Wish it were longer. Then we all did Dinosaur. DW and I hadn't done it for a while and Jen was never on it. She enjoyed it but thought it was more "intense" than RnRC.
After making our way through some shops, we decided to head out early and eat lunch off property. I know, I know - I'm the one always arguing that AK is not a half-day park. But we were all exhausted, it was raining off and on, and we all needed some downtime.
Had lunch at Shoney's - acceptable but not high on my list of recommendations. Then we went back to the condo and I took a nap. About 5:00 we headed back onsite and went to MK. Had dinnner at Cosmic Ray's, did some shopping on Main Street, then claimed some space upstairs at the train station. We watched SpectroMagic at 6:30 and Wishes at 7:30. That is a perfect place to view the fireworks from. The show is very nice. Unfortunately, it was rather cloudy so some of the higher shells were actually behind clouds and smoke so we couldn't fully appreciate them.
Got out of the park, on the monorail and tram very quickly. Crowds really weren't bad at all (which is a good thing if you're a guest, a bad thing if you're a stockholder - I'm both so mixed feelings).
We have one day left on our passes, but I think we'll skip the parks tomorrow. The Festival of the Masters starts tomorrow. We enjoyed that last year so we'll head over to DTD to check that out. We'll probably also visit some hotels. We always like to at least stop in the monorail resorts. Perhaps we'll do lunch at Beaches and Cream.
