Saturday, November 1
Cast of characters: Me, DW, DD-8, MIL
Location: Rented condo at Windsor Palms
Time: November 1-9 including drive time to and from NJ
Left NJ 8:30 am. Hit some construction traffic in Virginia - nothing major. Another jam up near Fayetteville, NC. Around 9 pm started looking for a hotel around Savannah. Every hotel was totally booked. Turned out there was a big Georgia-Florida football game and there wasn't a room to be found within 50 miles of Savannah. We got back on 95 and finally found a room at 11:30 in Brunswick, GA at exit 36. Although it was much later then we wanted to stop, it put us that much closer to WDW which made day 2 a breeze.
Sunday 11/2
Had breakfast at the hotel - Red Roof Inn by the way - and got on the road about 9:00. Managed to get thru to Orlando without a pit-stop (unusual for my crew). We stopped at Belz to visit Character Warehouse. Didn't get much - just a few pins to trade and a freezer mug. Then went to Sweet Tomatoes for lunch. I've read a bunch of rave reviews here about it and I must say they are well deserved. What a great find! They have a wonderful buffet with tons of great choices. Even my pretty picky 8 year old loved it and wants to go back. And for $6.99 ($4.49 for kids) we thought it was a great deal.
From there, we went to Windsor Palms where we are renting a 3-bedroom condo. The condo is beautiful and very spacious - 1400 square feet. The owners have it very nicely furnished. We haven't had a chance to check out the complex yet. I'll write more when we do.
Went over to the Winn-Dixie (formerly Goodings) to pick up some perishables that we couldn't bring with us. Then went over to DTD to buy our passes and have dinner. Since Gourmet Pantry is gone (boo-hoo) we ate at Wolfgang Puck's Express, one of our favorites. We got bbq chicken quesadilla, spinach and mushroom pizza and chicken tenders and all shared. Everything was fresh and tasty as always.
Did a little shopping, of course, and then called it a nite since we had all been up really late the previous nite.
I think tomorrow will find us in EPCOT, and we have an Illuminations cruise booked. Meeting up with 4 other DIS folks so looking forward to that.
