We are booked to go the week of Nov 5- 13th and my in-laws have decided to join us, which is a nice thing since they had to cancel last year due to an unexpected and serious injury. My MIL decided to check and see if there are any other rooms available just in case either my sister-in-law or brother-in-law changed their minds and want to go as well with their children, lo and behold my MIL was told that all the DVC resorts are booked up solid... I realize that this is the same week as Election and Veteran's days but I wasn't expecting to hear that resorts are booked solid... Does this seem odd to anyone else??

Not in the least. From mid-October to early January is the busiest time of the year for DVC.

People have been reporting for 2 months they can't find availablity that week so no it is not a surprise. in fact we are going up for a quick 2 day trip I didn't plan early enough and are staying at the Dolphin for the night we are there as there was nothing available when I was ready to make arrangements and that was for just 1 night of the week.

Wow I had not read that the resorts have been booked up for so long... I thought it would be busier than usual with the two holidays in one week but I wasn't thinking it would be sold out. Thanks for confirming this info!!

DVC is a timeshare and the entire foundation of a timeshare system is near 100% occupancy year round. Banking and borrowing do muddy things a bit but for the most part, vacancies are a result of members allowing points to expire unused.

There will be times when there are last minute vacancies but I would never expect that during high demand periods...and Jersey Week certainly qualifies.

October through December is very popular for DVC. October to mid November for Food & Wine Festival & Halloween and then mid-November through December for the Christmas decorations & activities. Members know to book early and last minute rooms are rare.

Dee, I'm going the exact time that you are. I just got into the system in late August and, thankfully, managed to snag some reservations at SSR, Kidani and OKW. I was able, through much calling, to whittle our reservation to two resorts but have not found any other availabilities at all. And nothing was available on the 11th at all -- we've booked a cash reservation at Coronado Springs for that night.

I think, too, with Veteran's Day being on a Friday this year, that it's that much more popular. I'm still calling, though - you never know what might happen.

Best to you -- glad your family was able to recover from all that happened last year.

Last week, I tried to book 11/10 - 11/13 for a last minute birthday trip for me and DH. All studio, 1br, and 2br were booked. Because it's just the two of us, we ended up at Coronado for the 3 nights on DVC points. That weekend is the last of F&W, the opening of Osbourne lights, MVMCP, Festival of the Masters, Veterans Day, and the last of Jersey Week. It's pretty darn busy! We also had an interesting time booking ADRs. We ended up deciding to eat at F&W while in Epcot, got an early ressie for Brown Derby, and tea at the GF for our MK day.

I hope everything works out. Have a wonderful trip!

I called right at 9:00 am at 7mos. for Nov 3-8. Studios were already booked for BLT, BCV, and BWV.

Perhaps your MIL can wait list something and in the meantime book a cash reservation? However, I have to admit (not having not paid cash in awhile) I forget what the cancellation policy is if the wait list comes through... Good Luck!

Are you talking about a cash or points reservation? I assume points? We had a WL for one night (11/10) for 4 months and finally just booked a room cash. That one night never came through, though the WL is still active. That is not only Jersey week, but also the last week of F&W. It will be quite busy. As a matter of fact, we arrive the 10th but are not even planning on going to the parks until the 14th-18th b/c that week will be very quiet, and we can get more done in a half a day then a whole day the week before.

OP here- I think my MIL was just trying to find out (points or cash) just in case someone else in the family decided it would be a good time to come along. I am actually glad that the answer was so clear because as she said "you snooze, you lose" so it will just be us, which is all I really wanted in order to make up for their cancellation of last year's trip.

I was shocked because we were there the same week in 2008 and it was far from completely booked. It makes sense though because of F&W, both holidays etc. For this year I booked about 7 months ago and got the exact resort and room size I needed and never looked at availability again. This new bit of information will be served well by us now by using extra magic hours more often and being prepared for longer lines all around. No biggie, we'll be in Disney!!

It would definitely be impossible to get the whole week, or even most nights, with points that week but I know for a fact that there are plenty of cash rooms available....either way, have a great trip.

I was very lucky. I had points in holding (139) and called last Tuesday. I was able to get a 1br at Jambo from Nov 5-10. There was a studio available at that time. Just have to keep calling. Never know.

***UPDATE*** I called back this morning (9/19) and was able to add another night to my reservation. So its Nov 4-10th. AKV- Jambo - 1 BR - Standard View.

Keep trying.
