Jennifer's Intervention!

Thanks Chrisite and Jana! I did get on the treadmill and then worked out so I have a lot of exercise minutes today. Also made arrangements to go to Applebee's tonight so I can eat off their WW menu...good things!

Now bad news...my mom has to have surgery on January 16th, she has a very large mass on an ovary. She's in Orlando I'm in Indy. Got the news from my dad who is so poetic - "they're just going to clean out the whole bottom half of her." What the heck does that mean?! Now I'm not sure what to do...I want to go but have never left DD and don't want to I would miss her soooooooooo much. DH is fantastic and would be totally wonderful with her I know, but still....just found this out and guess what I want to do? Eat! And not carrots, chips chips french fries and maybe some more chips then through in some chocolate. Aaargh. I need "digest" this news. Meanwhile life goes on and I'm looking forward to B&B, glad to hear you gave it good reviews Christie! It's running at the Civic Center.

I took yesterday off but still ate well, today back to the exercise and treadmill. These past few days have been a struggle with the news about DM's tumor...I finally made the decision on when to go and am going to take DD...I would hate for something terminal to happen quickly and not have a "last" visit for her. I also am struggling with dealing with my parent's mortality...are we ever really ready for that? Unfortunately Ruffles have been my friend when I start thinking like this. DH saw me yeseterday feasting and told me to step away from the chips...he loves me.

On a lighter note, DD and I will be making a quick few hour trip here and there to WDW to get a break. It's good having that to look forward to. :hyper:

I found some more motivation in the Diet magazine or whatever it's called by People, more before and afters and what they did. It seems like most of them spent 30 - 60 minutes on the treadmill every day which is pretty close to what I'm doing (even though I took yesterday off), since I've been doing 45 minutes/day. I still plan on taking one day a week off though. I'm a little nervous about exercise during my trip but I'm sure I can get it in, even if I have to walk outside :scared1: Hmmm, low 70's - sounds good!!

Today is off to a frustrating start - weighed myself and I'm actually UP 3 pounds :scared1: - how can that be?! :confused3 I'm thinking water retention, I did have pretzels yesterday plus my chips (but not 3 pounds of chips!). This will NOT get me off my plan though, I had my whole grain high fiber yummy bagel for breakfast. :earsgirl: I'm cutting back on my diet cokes until I don't drink them anymore (maybe). I might still have one in the morning. Today is a treadmill day. My legs are a little stiff from it but that should be gone in the next week.

Hi Jennifer!!

Don't worry about that 3 pounds it probably is just water since you had quite a bit of salt yesterday.

I'm glad to hear that you are back on the treadmill. I took Saturday off too, I just couldn't get motivated to exercise, but I was back at it Sunday morning.

Sneaking in a little time at WDW while you are in Orlando sounds like a good plan to me. Will DH be meeting you there later in the week?

Jennz, I'm sorry to hear about your mother. You must be beside yourself with worry. Its hard dealing with that stuff from a long distance. I hope you're able to work out a solution that your comfortable with.

I decided to do BFL after Amy told me about it. I was just floundering at the end of the year. I didn't have any real goals or schedules to stick to. BFL is good for me because it gave me a schedule, goals, & food program. The workout is 6 days a week - 45 minutes on weights 3 days a week - 20 minutes of aerobics 3 days a week. I found it easy to stick to since it doesn't go overboard. The diet focuses on lean proteins, complex carbs & fruit/veggies with 6 small meals a day.

Don't let yourself get stressed out! Hang in there, Jennz!

Thanks for the encouragement Christie and Jane! That makes it easier for me to stay on track. :flower:

Jane - on the BFL do they give you recipes and is the food something easy to make and stick with?

I'm very pleased to report a loss - the 3 pounds are gone and they took another 1/2 with them!!

I got on the treadmill yesterday, so that's a good thing. I didnt' get on today though. I am so tired and I don't know why so I decided to skip. Tomorrow I'll lift weights and get back on the treadmill. Eating has been good today, tonight's bunco so I didn't have snacks during the day so I can snack tonight.

I had your journal opened earlier to answer your Body for Life questions and I have no idea what happened to my reply. My husband and I have made BFL our way of living now. We've followed the program for 10 months now and whenever we go off program for any length of time we miss it and go back to it. I haven't looked at my book in quite awhile so I don't remember how many recipes they have there but they do have recipes on their website and there is a cookbook called eating for life (I adore this cookbook and am thinking of getting a backup one because we use ours so much)

Their website is very informative and answers a lot of questions. I know we started following the program and followed it for three weeks off the website before I got my hands on the book. When I first started I was doing WW and checked the calories I ate and found it very comparable to the points I had on WW. I finally gave up my WW membership after I had been on the program for 6 months. I haven't lost all the weight that many of their success stories have but I am in a lot better shape and see the definite improvements that have gone on in me physical and mental from the plan. It's not for everybody but the premise of it I bought into hook line and sinker because it made sense to me and had an excercise regiment that I could actually follow instead of just saying go workout to get AP's.

Their website is www.bodyforlife.com

Trying to post for third time now I remember what happened before the server was to busy. :)

The website that Beth referred you to has all the information. She's been doing the program the longest - its been motivating to read her posts. I picked up a book and tape at the library. There are recipes in the book. Basically, you select a lean protein & carbohydrate for your meal. For at least two meals you add in a veggie. Having the protein every few hours keeps me from feeling hungry.

Congrats on getting on that treadmill yesterday!

Thanks for the info on the BFL, I think I will do that. I need some serious structure right now. My mom has ovarian cancer and the tumor is huge. Just found out it's cancer today. Surgery is Monday and then we'll know the stage, which also means prognosis. I'm wishing I had planned to be there. Of course hindsight is 20/20. Instead I'll be there when she gets out of the hospital to help at home. This weekend will be a tough one to get through...

Jennz, I'm so sorry. I'll be praying for your family. Please let us know how the surgery goes on Monday.

Jennifer, I'm sorry to hear about your Mother. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Jennifer, I'm really sorry about your mom. Take care of yourself. I'll be praying for you and your mom.

My prayers are with your family. Big hugs!

Hi :) I'm new to the journal thing and just read yours and wanted to say that I hope your mom is ok. Both of you will be in my thoughts.

Thanks so much everyone! I just got back from Orlando and am quite exhausted! I go back down on Tuesday for DM's first chemo. DD got very sick while we were down, 103 temp while she was already on meds! so dealing w/that, mom and every little thing wore me out. Eating was still pretty good - I'd give myself a B or B+. :) Walked a bit but not as much as I thought. Squeezed in a trip to AK to see EE w/DD (lots of initials! :teeth: ) but we didn't ride. Looked like lots of fun! Poor DD was so worn out we left w/out even riding anything! Went to MK the next day, got there late and had lots of fun - much much needed fun!

More later...it's great to be back even for a few days!!

Okay today is much much more stressful than I anticipated. Unpacking and repacking and leaving DH and DD to see DM during chemo...it's wearing on me! I can't make it through 1/2 hour without crying. I moved myself OUT of the kitchen where I was making friends with the chocolate chips! My goals today: walk on the treadmill, drink my water, write notes for DD to read while I'm gone, and take a shower!
