Me (Jen) 28, mad about WDW
Alex 25, anything for a quiet life

Monday 6th August

The usual jetlag woke us up at 4am, we managed to get back to sleep but kept waking up and finally got up at 7am. We had a quick breakfast at the food court, I had a bagel and Alex had toast and then headed to Epcot and we were there by 8:45am. Every time I have been before I have always gone to MK on the first day but this year we decided to do Epcot as the next day was EMH at MK in the morning and we thought we may as well use the jetlag to its advantage!

We waited outside Epcot for the gates to open, the sun was already very, very hot and I was absolutely melting! Lots of people around us were mopping themselves with flannels and I realised that that was a necessity I had not thought of.

When the gates opened Alex went straight to Text Track and got FP for it and I walked over to Soarin where he joined me. We queued for about 15 mins to get onto this and were in the 1st row. I love this ride so much, my favourite part is when you fly over the MK in amongst the fireworks.

When we came out we got FP for Soarin and then went on Living with the land which was a walk on. We then headed out of The Land towards TT, as we were walking I saw a sign for Ice Station Cool, we had never been in here before so we went and tried all of the drinks, I made Alex try the Beverly first and told him it was delicious! Alex found a few drinks that he liked but I thought they were all pretty horrible!

Next stop was TT where we used our FP, this ride was as great as ever, the part where you go outside was so hot and sunny it was impossible to see anything.

We had a look at the show cars, I can’t people actually drive cars that big, it must be like trying to park a tank!

It was just after 11am by now so we walked over to World Showcase, we always start at the Canada side so this year just to be wild we started at the Mexico end! We went on the ride in Mexico which we haven’t done before, it was a nice enough boat ride but not something I would want to queue for.

We slowly wandered round the countries, we looked in all the shops and bought a few bits and bobs, I bought a lucky cat in China or Japan but when I got it home it was chipped so not so lucky after all!

Our FP time for Soarin was nearly up so we quickly walked back over and had another ride, we were on row 2 this time which I thought was better than row 1 but Alex insisted that row 1 is the best.

Straight after this we went to the Garden Grill where we had an ADR for 1pm, we had about a 20 min wait and then we were seated. This was a first for us and to be honest I didn’t think that much of it. The décor seemed a bit tatty and old and it was nowhere near as nice as the Crystal Palace is. The food was nice, I had the veggie option which was pasta and this was ok but a bit boring so instead I had some turkey and potatoes which was lovely. The main reason we came here is that it has Chip n Dale who Alex used to love as a kid so he had his photo taken with them and was happy.

When we came out we were feeling tired and the heat was very intense now so we decided to head back to Pop for a rest, before we left tho we grabbed another FP for TT for later that night as I love to ride it in the dark .

Back at Pop we had a lie down and then went to the pool and had a nice swim which was very refreshing. Once we were changed and ready we had dinner at Pop, I had the veggie lasagne and Alex had the steak and cheese wrap.

Now it was at this point that I realised what a pain the backside the DDP can be! The woman in front of us at the till had 2 trays loaded up with snack foods, crisps, cookies, sweets etc, when she went to pay she was seriously upset that she couldn’t have it all for just one snack credit!! She argued it for ages and then spent a long time trying to decide what to put back and it took forever, I changed queues in the end and I was halfway thru my meal by the time she finally finished paying! The thing is we saw this happen loads of times, people just seemed clueless on what they could have, they either chose way too much or hadn’t picked out the drink or desert they could have, we got stuck in a queue so many times behind people on the DDP who dithered for ages. ARGHHHHHH! Ok rant over!

We went back to Epcot and were there by about 7:30pm, we used our FP and went straight onto TT, this ride is even better at night.

It was about 8:15pm so we wandered over to World Showcase to find a good place to watch Illuminations, we found a place in the UK in the chip shop seating area and bought a drink. The fireworks were amazing, I could never get bored of watching them.

Throughout the show there was the occasional rumble of distant thunder then just as the last firework exploded the heavens opened and there was the most almighty thunderstorm! We quickly made our way over to Mousegear and had a look around, we thought we would wait until the rain had calmed down and hopefully the queue for the bus wouldn’t be too bad.

At 10pm we went to the bus stop and it seemed everyone had had the same idea as us as the queue was still huge! Four buses came at once tho, not all of them Disney buses and we were soon on our way back to Pop on a Mears bus. We were in bed by 10:45pm and asleep!

great day- :goodvibes but i do hope the DDP works well when we are there as we have it! I think some folks just 'try it on'- which is unfair.

A great day at my fave park Jen. I love riding Test Track in the dark too :thumbsup2

Mandy :)

oh we saw loads of problems with the ddp too, but to ne honest it wouldn't put me off trying it, its very good value.
love the fireworks pic, mine never come out that good

and i just read your email, guess that cat was lucky after all :goodvibes

A lovely day, Jen. I thought it was funny that you switched ends of World Showcase - we always start with Mexico, so we did it the other way round last year!

Laur's princess:

We always come into the world showcase by the back entrance and start off with a drink in the rose and crown and wonder why we never seem to finish the other countries!

Great report
