We were allowed to pick our time in October.

I have heard that people have been offered a choice but they just told us when ours would be. Since it was the first one of the day, I didn't inquire about other possibilities.

Ever since FP+ was put into place, guests have been able to choose their JTA session as long as there is availability. That's why it's best to get to JTA sign-ups when the park opens.
