We are going to DL over Thanksgiving. How do I manage to get my son selected for Jedi Training as it will make his entire trip. Thanks.

Don't know if this will help you or not, but we were there in Sept. and my son was picked. He was wearing this Tshirt that my parents had got him--it said Palm Springs and had a picture of a Gecko on it. The CM said "I absolutely love Geckos--the boy in the Gecko shirt, get on up here". My son was thrilled. Don't know if that same CM would be there when you are, but it is worth a shot. Good luck!

We were there a few weeks ago and no one had a sign. I did notice the "jedi trainer" was calling kids by their shirt. So maybe a distinctive shirt might help. also get there a little early to be in the front. DS was lucky enough to be picked on our first try so we didn't have to keep going back. My son had on a red Star wars lego shirt.

When we were there in June I followed all the instructions- ha him place on the blue line(squeezed him in by the entry sign) he was wearing a lime green shirt that had a disney logo on it, he was holing a sign we made that had yoda on it, and said "strong I am with the force", and i told him to jump up and down and act like he wanted to get picked. He did- he was the 3rd kid picked for the first session of the day! He was so excited, and so were we, other wise we would have been camped out there all day until he was picked,lol...

Here in Florida, the Jedi Training Academy at Disney's Hollywood Studios recently transitioned to a "First Come, First Served" system, in which potential Padawans are asked to line up seperately before the beginning of the session. Once enough participants have entered the line, it is closed off, and those in line are those who will participate.

It wouldn't surprise me if the JTA at Disneyland Park also eventually transitions to this system.

Thank you!

Any suggestions as to sign size?

We just printed our sign on a regular size paper, on card stock so it was not so flimsy. We have done this twice now, and were picked right away both days. I don't think it matters what the sign says, it is just a way for the Jedi Master to easily pick the kid out.

I would use a bright sign color, I would suggest fluorescent poster board. Personally I really don't think the Jedi can really see wording from his point of view, especially if the sun is bright that day. Plus I don't think he has time to fully read sign wording unless it's very short and bold, so that's why I stick with simple images such as a character's face or a symbol.

Be sure to show up early so you can get a good spot in the front and in the center, if I were you I would aim for the section closest to Space Mountain and not Nemo, and right next to the roped off aisle way. Puts you in the center and that side doesn't seem as hectic as the Nemo side. Go to one of the earlier shows in case you don't have luck on the first try, at least that way you'll still have shows left to try again.

On our last visit to DL, Jedi Training was the low point of our trip. DS had just turned 4. We showed up an hour early so we could sit on the front row. DS was wearing a star wars lego tshirt, and did end up on the front row. However, as the waiting time wore on, other families really crowded around us. By showtime, we new it was going to be difficult to get picked. When the Jedi masters came out and started picking, they immediately picked our son! (I think it was because of the shirt.) As he stood up to walk out there, an unruly family next to us had their 2 boys (who showed up really late and squoze up front) stand up and run onstage. The second jedi master, the one that wasn't doing the choosing, sent our son back to sit down, as if they had enough kids up there. They then proceeded to continue picking kids out of the audience.

Needless to say, our little guy was heartbroken. As parents, my wife and I had to really hold it together to get through the show. We were pretty upset...
Our son got over the whole thing a lot faster than we did. We got some great pictures of the show, which our son loves, but I think they bring back painful memories for mom and dad.:sad1:

I think the shirts do work, it might even help to have your own lightsaber!

Good luck!!

Holding a sign is the best thing to do. They will look for shirts that stand out, star wars related is always good. They do go pretty quickly with the picking, and it seems the signs get picked. My son has done it 2 times now. The first time, we just had a piece of paper with the words The Force is With Me, written in crayon (a last minute thing at the hotel). Last time we decided to make a sign ahead of time. We made one with a picture of Darth Vader on it and a red slash through him and it said in bold letters at the top of the image "Vader Hater". The jedi master that was picking read that one and asked if he could keep it.

Needless to say we are a believer in the signs! Hope that helps. Hope your family has a great trip!
