Jedi Training in February?

Hi all - working on getting my plans together for Feb/March 2015 trip (sorry, I know I use this same line in all my posts. Get used to it since I might have one question every other day for the next 6 months!)

We will be in HS on Friday, 2/27. Per EasyWDW, this is most recommended. TouringPlans has crowd at 5. Currently one Fantasmic at 7 p.m., but last Feb at this time a second show at 8:30 was also listed. Park opens at 9 a.m.

My son will likely want to do the Jedi Training. Do I really REALLY have to be at the gate at 8 a.m. and wait outside for an hour to rope drop, and high tail it there to get a spot? We were hoping to make this a more leisurely day (after two other RD days) and maybe arrive around 10 a.m.?

I'm looking for anyone who has signed up a little later. I know at busy times of the year, slots are gone one hour after park opens. There is a chance I could convince by DS to wake up with me and the two of us go in early to get his spot, and then arrange a nice, long afternoon break.

What do you think?

The earlier you get there, not only the better your chance at getting a spot, but also the better your chances at getting a spot that you want. By 10:00, you're going to be limited in the shows you're offered, if there are any spots available at all. JTA is unpredictable in how available it is. Though the crowds are lower in February, they may also offer fewer showers than during busier times, so it essentially negates the low crowds.

I don't think you need to arrive at 8:00 and wait an hour, but you should certainly plan on being at DHS by 8:30 or 8:45 at the very latest to make sure you get a slot. If JTA is a must-do, then a RD arrival really is necessary.

Thank you. I think I'll just need to try to re-work one of my TP in order to go at RD with my son. If the rest of the family wants to come at that time, great, if not, at least he and will go and get signed up. Then we'll work in a big break for later in the day!

Sign ups are generally completed within 30 minutes of park opening and a big line forms, so if it's important to you, you should arrive by 8:30am

Am I able to do this at rd by myself and then sign my sons up for an afternoon session?

Your sons must be with you as the CMs ask them questions. The CMs need to make sure your sons are within the age range, 4-12, and that they want to do JTA.

Thank goodness for this thread, I had no idea (need to research more!)
We have 8am Hollywood and Vine reservations, if we aren't done can my daughter and husband run out get a return time and then come back? Or should we rush to be done before park opening?

Just send your husband and daughter and wait at H&V until they return. There's no need to rush everyone through the experience.

Thanks for the tips (even though not what I wanted to hear, at least I asked!). I showed my son parts of the youtube video of JTA and he is still talking about it, so I'm thinking this might be a YES for him, so I'm going to go ahead and plan to be there at park opening! Thanks all as usual. You are the best.
