My 8 yr old son broke his arm last Thursday, he's highly looking forward to doing Jedi training academy at Hollywood studios. He is no longer in any pain, and did not break his dominant arm.

Do you think he will still be able to participate in the show?

Oh I feel for you guys. Ds broke his radius and ulna last summer and was in a cast from his armpit down.

Not sure about Jedi. They'll want to know he can do it. Can he? What do YOU think? Is this desperation (my son broke his on Friday and begged to do the closing tap dance show at his convention on Sunday so I know about the desperate desire to go back to normal) or a real thing that he can do it without pain it further injury?

No matter what, make sure he goes to a PT. Our orthopedist said "kids don't need PT". He was wrong. We can self refer so we did so, and there were MAJOR improvements once he started PT.

I would think so. Especially if his dominant arm is fine. Sure, most of the time the kids use both arms to wield a light saber, but it's not all that heavy, so why not?

I would ask your doctor, see what he thinks. Do you have a baseball bat? I'm thinking that would be a similar weight, you could have him practice at home, see if he can actually manage it. He needs to be able to do jabs, swings and a jump swing. Whether or not they'll change the routine to work with him is hard to say. Really, I think the biggest risk however would be his arm getting accidentally bumped by one of the 20 other kids during practice that are swinging light sabers.

Thank You all for your advice! We were told he could ride non jerky rides with his sling on tight to his body. He is already trying to use the cast as a weapon against his big sister :rotfl:

Maybe when we sign her up, they will have a saber he can hold or try to handle... Hmmm :confused3

It'll be 2 weeks from the day he broke it when we go to HS, so hopefully he will be ok, I'll take it day by day.

Thanks again!!

No problem. Last year I saw a boy with a cast on his arm, a girl on crutches and a boy in a wheelchair. That one broke my heart. He was able to best Darth Vader and sent him to his knees begging for mercy. You should have seen the kids face. Another Magical Moment.

Tears in my eyes, even when it's not my kids. Love it.

The last time my little Padawan did Jedi training, there was a little girl in a wheelchair with a feeding tube battling away. I think the Jedi Training crew are some of the most caring and accommodating CMs around, and I'll bet they'll be more than able to take care of your guy!

@MSPeeler ~ make sure your DS wears good shoes with good traction. The stage can be slippery if it begins to rain. Many kids wearing flip-flops have had bad slips and falls onstage.

That's why JTA shuts down even with light sprinkles. But if it begins to rain during a session, the kids do have to leave the stage so wearing the correct footwear is a must. :)

AWESOME. Just awesome.

More than once, I had tears in my eyes walking through Disney, seeing the way they truly do try to make dreams come true - from adapting a ride vehicle so a completely immobile child (in a wheelchair that was flat like a bed) who was on oxygen was able to ride, to seeing the Make A Wish families, to stuff like this. I don't think there is another place on earth that tries to accommodate like Disney does.

This is awesome! Pure Disney magic!
