Jedi Training and Indiana Jones

Just wondering if they still do the Jedi training or not? My son would love to do this as he is just starting to get into all things Star Wars. If they still do it does anyone know how many kids get picked at a time? We are there for a week so hopefully he will get a chance on one of the days.

Also, is there still the live Indiana Jones show going on? If so where abouts is it?

Yes they still have the Jedi Training Academy, but don't know how many kids they choose.
And no, they don't have Indy's show anymore.

JTA is performed in Tomorrowland near the Finding Nemo ride entrance. They take about 30 kids at a time. For some tips see:

Jedi training is typically 6 shows a day, starting at 10:30 am. Our DS 12 (then 11) did it last March and it was really fun, our DS 6 wasn't picked and he was really bummed.

We are planning on making sure all of our boys, 12, 6, and 4 have a chance to do it, but we will be there for 6 days, so I think we can manage. I think my niece wants to do it, too. If you can, separate your kids with an adult and have them jump up and down and look excited. If they aren't together in a group, I think they might get picked better. No favoritism or something.

Don't obviously bring in a sign for JT. We made that mistake and had to throw it away at security. Signs are not allowed at DLR! If you have a backpack or stroller put it in with other stuff so it is not obvious and you should be fine.

We were there last week and they only picked about 10-12 kids. DD was Padame Amadala for Halloween so we packed her costume in hopes she would get picked and, Thank Goodness, she was. There was a lady there and it was her 3rd attempt to get her grandson picked and he wasn't oicked for the fourth time! I felt so bad for the little guy.
No one had signs so that may help set your child apart. I have heard on here thought that posters are not allowed in the park. I guess incase someone wanted to protest Mickey. So make it small and folding. Maybe a Star Wars shirt.
Photopass guy was there and took some great photos. We had to go to the photo store though with DD to have ot added to our pass

Good info. When I was at the DSH park at WDW in May 2008 they picked about 15 kids. When we were at DL in June 2007 they picked about 30. Half of the 30 got to fight Darth Vader, while the other half (including my DS11) fought Darth Maul. I assumed they always took that many. Guess not. Thanks.

Thanks everyone!! We will try some of the ideas and hopefully he will get chosen. He's been practicing for the last week with his light saber so he knows the moves.

Only one there was Darth Vadar, no Darth Mal. I guess that's why they only picked 15

Regarding Signs:

- I know some like to make elaborate signs & I understand that SIGNS as a rule in DLR parks are not allowed or are confiscated at security.

- I don't have the inclination to do artsy stuff, so both times i "made a sign" it consisted of an 8X11 Manilla folder (folded out into an 11 X 16 inch "sign").

- I'd write a cute little thing with a black sharpie.....took maybe 15 seconds.

- I folded it up & it was in my cargo pants pocket (since i also don't bring a backpack or bag.....or anything like that with me).

- In 2 years of reading posts on Jedi Training, I haven't once read of a person holding a sign NOT being chosen. In other words, 100% of those who have posted here ..... whose kids had signs..... got chosen by the Master Jedi (normally first ones picked out of the gate).

I'm going to add the information to the Jedi superthread... regarding elaborate signs packed in backpacks being confiscated at security so people are aware..., since I've read of this happening a couple of times & could be a downer if a lot of time & effort was spent on a sign.

If anyone has an experience that signs being held by a young padewan is not successful (in getting him/her picked).....please post here or on the Jedi superthread. & feel free to post any experiences or comments (& espcially pictures) on the Jedi superthread as well.

This was my experience as well. 25 - 30 picked, half fought Vader & half fought Maul.

If anyone else traveling this week encounters only 10-15 kids being picked, or if Darth Maul is there or isn't there, please post.

With many friends with kids who are Star Wars fans, I have seen this show a few too many times. (Yes, really! You can see it too much!)

I don't think I have ever seen as many as 30 kids picked. I think it is around 20. (Even if there is both DV and DM, remember, there can only be one "fight" taking place at the end at a time since each kid is given a spotlight moment.)

They are usually around age 4-12.

We were told once that they look for kids that are old enough to be able to follow instructions, know left from right, and appear energetic, but young enough that they are truly kids. (Remember, it IS a show. They need to make sure the kids selected can do what is necessary, with direction, and will be excited about being up there. They are very aware of the difference between excited kids and excited parents with a kid.)

It is true that DL will not allow signs and although many fold, roll, etc... a sign to get selected, it does not seem to increase your odds.

Remember it is NOT the people going out in the audience that selects the participants. It is the main Jedi with the mic. He identifies the soon-to-be-participants from the stage and the "helpers" go to the crowd to bring them forward.

I think it is safe to say there are 20-30 picked when both Vader and Maul are involved. I looked at some photos from 2007 when my DS11 was picked and the line of kids to fight Vader was at least 13 long - which represented half the kids.

BTW, my DS11 destroyed Darth Maul. Maul never had a chance. I am surprised he still comes back to DL to fight the other kids after that beating.

so how does photo pass work with the JTA? Do the photopass guys take pictures of your kids fighting Darth or is that a pic you need to take yourself?

Correct. The Master Jedi selects.....& anything that makes it easier for the Master Jedi to select (one's kid) couldn't hurt. (a sign....lime green shirt....etc.)

My kids (and their friends) have been picked 100% of the times we brought signs! We only did it once without, at that time DD got picked (well, she gets picked for everything- she's never been in Turtle Talk without getting picked. Ever!) but DS and his friend did not. Spreading out is a good idea, and we had done that to maximize chances, but still.

Our "signs" were just printed out from the computer on plain old white printer paper, which we rolled up and put in the backpack. "The Force is strong in this one" or "The Force is with me" kind of things. My DD is 11 and realizing that she is one of the biggest out there now- I don't think they pick kids any older than her, though. That makes her sad! She LOVES to fight Darth Maul!

I am going to skip replying to your argumentative reply to my post as I don't this it was appropriate at all. I was sharing what I have experienced after seeing the show upwards of 20 times.

so how does photo pass work with the JTA? Do the photopass guys take pictures of your kids fighting Darth or is that a pic you need to take yourself?

The photopass people take photos of all the young Jedis throughout the show. Later that day, you can go to the photo store, where they will one-by-one display all of the photos from that training session. After you identify your child, they will 'click' on all of your child's photos, and then they will add them to your photopass card. (At least that's how it worked at DHS in WDW last August.)

Of course you're free to shoot as many photos (or video) as you want. From my experience, the photopass photographers did a great job, and some of his photos were better than mine.

I have heard stories at DHS, where families go to JTA 4 times in a row, and their children don't get selected. Last August, at DHS, we were the only family that had signs, and in our first show, both DS6 and DD5 were selected (only 13 children were selected). At DL, in August '07 we were 0 for 2 (without signs), and in October '07 we were 1 for 1 (with signs). My experience with signs has been positive.

Dreams I think this escalated unnecessarily. The way Hound's post read to me was that he was trying not to be argumentative (that was the "agree to disagree" part) but he did want to disagree with a few of your opinions. And he did. I did not read it as an attack - just a difference of opinion and/or experience.

I think the "24 replies" part was not referring to this thread but a separate tally Hound is keeping on the successful use of signs at JTA. We personally did not use a sign so I have no experience or opinion on the matter. Hound obviously thinks there is a majority opinion that signs work.

Maybe Hound should post a poll and you and others could vote on it. I think it is an important point because some families go back multiple times to get their kids selected and if the use of signs helps that is a huge tip and time saver. As I said, we did not use a sign. We got DS11 picked on the second try. The first time we tried casually. The second time we dressed him a bright red shirt and I lifted him up onto my hip and all the family members pointed at him.

HydroGuy read my post as i was hoping to convey.

Nothing but good vibes to all. Not being argumentative....i'm more of a conversationalist. Since your post was directly under mine (& mine was encouraging the use of signs), I assumed you were responding to my post & not the OP.


The two dozen people (that i was referring to) are the ones who have responded in the superthread (& also a few in this thread).

& I agree that it's not necessary to have a sign to get selected (most kids who participate don't have signs)....just saying that having a sign has (so far) had a 100% success rate from all that have chosen to post on these boards. (assuming the signs don't get confiscated ).


I sometimes have a hard time communicating well over the "internets"...& this was one of those times.
