We're traveling to DW with some friends of ours this October. During the trip, their son will be celebrating a birthday. He is a huge Star Wars fan. We would love to sign him up to complete the Jedi Training Academy. Does anyone have any tips to make this happen? We will be there for 9 days, so we hope to have some luck.

Just head right to the sign ups for it as soon as the park opens - make sure you get there before rope drop.

To be extra sure, make a dining reservation for before the park opens. You can often sign up for Jedi Training before your meal.

We did Jedi training during our last trip in October. I made a pre-park-opening ADR at Hollywood and Vine, to make sure that we could sign up before rope drop. Unfortunately, the bus from Animal Kingdom Lodge was 1 hour late (!) and we missed both our ADR and rope drop. I grabbed my son and ran for the bag-less entrance a soon as we arrived, leaving my husband behind with my daughter, bags, and stroller. There was already a long line when we got there and we had to wait a good hour or so, but were still able to sign up for the time we wanted in the afternoon (all the morning spots were already taken). I think you'll be fine if you arrive at rope drop and are flexible about the time slot you want.

I find it weird that Disney doesn't have a better way to do this. Like put the kiosk up front or have some sort of pre-registration so people don't have to choose between going all the way over there to sign up and waste morning touring time and then have to backtrack to something like RNR, etc. Those lines at RNR and TSMM really balloon up quickly. I guess I want to have my cake and eat it too but still.

With demand being so high, I see why they make you do it in person and with the child present. Otherwise, these things would book up 180/60 days (or whatever they chose) in advance, and then half the kids wouldn't show.

I agree though, having it sit all the way behind echo lake instead of just being up front or even before the turnstiles is an odd choice. But again, may it's to spread the crowds or dissuade folks from signing up because it is so popular?

I'm thinking PPO ADRs might not be a thing in Hollywood Studios for a while once Toy Story Land opens. But I'm going to make a reservation for the earliest possible time anyway for our upcoming trip, just in case. I have had mixed success with the Jedi line at rope drop, partly because we refuse to run, and once one runner goes by, everyone else seems to speed up and panic, too. I'm willing to pay for a potentially bad, overpriced breakfast if it eliminates the stress of a rushing crowd.

We did it for my son the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week (one of the busiest weeks). We got there about 30 mins before rope drop and got one of the last spots. There was a person counting the line and letting people know who would get guaranteed spots.

If you arrive about a half hour before rope drop, you will be fine. Be prepared for additional time waiting in line at the sign ups though. It was about 45 minutes for us. Yes, the sign ups is like your rope drop ride. They use to give an anytime paper fp for having to spend your rope drop time waiting, but I understand they aren't doing this anymore. That kinda made up for the wait.

We did it in mid-April. It was a 9 am opening and we arrived around 8:40 and headed straight there. There were only two people in line in front of us and there were slots in shows from 11:40 onward, I believe.

We went Easter week (so super crowded), we arrived an hour before rope drop. Then got held up because my DS struggled with the finger touch, I thought my DH's head was going to explode as we watched seas of people go by. In the end though we made it to the line with only a fifteen minute wait. We got signed up for the second shot of the day. You'll do fine if you get there early and head straight there.

I haven't been to WDW in a year and a half. We did PPO breakfast at the time for this reason. However, I thought I read somewhere that they do sign ups by the rope drop area now. Was that wrong?

It's the same place or has been for the last few years. Outside the store near Indy.

We did the early breakfast ADR that was mentioned earlier in this thread. My son and I headed right to the signup area after we ate and were near the front of the line. Young Jedi's must have patience for the signup process. You will want to be sure to pick a time that works around any fast passes and additional dining plans you have for that day. Good luck and may the force be with you!!! :darth:

For people reading along, you do NOT have to wait until after your PPO meal to sign up for Jedi Training. You go sign up first and then check in for the PPO breakfast.
