We last went to DL about 6 years ago. My older 2 kids were picked every time they wanted to participate.
I don't know if it's still the same, but at that time, the key to getting picked was to make a sign and have your child hold the sign. Do this for each child that wishes to participate. Say fun things like "Yoda for President" or other Star Wars stuff.
My older son was about 4 years old at the time. He wanted to do the Jedi Training and was the smallest one picked. It was absolutely hilarious because they put him right in the middle and the Jedi Trainer always spoke directly to him. It became obvious almost immediately that he wasn't paying any attention to anything the Jedi Trainer was saying. The Trainer cracked a few jokes about it and DH and I were cracking up.
My daughter, who was about 7 at the time, saw all the attention we were paying to her brother while he was on stage. Suddenly, she wanted to participate, too. So the next time we were over there, I had both of my kids with signs and they were both picked.
At the end of the training, each new Jedi faces off one on one with either Darth Vadar or Darth Maul. They had all the older kids facing off with Darth Maul. For some reason, they decided my daughter was big enough to face Darth Maul.
She was the last one to face him, and the Darth Vadar side was done, so when her turn came, all attention was focused on her. As Darth Maul came toward her, she recoiled in terror and nearly bolted! (My poor, sweet baby) LOL
Luckily, one of the female Jedi Trainers was very close and came quickly to aid her. She encouraged her and helped her "defeat" Darth Maul.
So it all worked out well. But I think she still thinks twice about being jealous of annoying little brothers.
So unless they've changed things (which is entirely possible) please consider bringing a sign. And remember, they collect them and keep them as they choose kids, so you'd be smart to have extra, just in case.
