Taking my 10 year old nephew to DL for the first time next month. He's a BIG Star Wars fan. Is he too old for the Jedi Academy? Have you see other kids that age participate? If so, what's the BEST way to get to participate?

Thanks

Our DS was 10 last time he did it. Him and his brother both wore their jedi Halloween costumes and got picked right away. I think it helps if he wore a starwars shirt, or held a sign. Make sure he is very enthusiastic when they are picking people.

I would also recommend getting there a bit early. Before the show, there are "Jedi assistants" who come and chat with people. He should try to carry on a bit of a conversation with them. And, if you get there early, you will be in the front, which is good for visibility. Then, when the Jedi Master comes out, he should be enthusiastic (arm waving, calm jumping) when they start picking. And yes, in our experience, Star Wars clothing did appear to help.

10 is not too old at all. he will have a blast. agree with previous comments. star wars shirts, enthusiasm, etc. have a great time!

The sign says ages 4-12, and when we were there, there were several 10-12 year olds there. The older/taller children will fight Darth Maul on the ground level, while the shorter/younger children will fight Darth Vader up on the stage. When we went, DD6 had her hair done up like princess Leia and she got chosen right away. We were there early and sat in the front row and ate a snack. The jedi assistants were there walking around and I think they were looking to see who could behave them selves during the show.

Ds did this last week he is seven and loved it. We saw small children and older children. We went to signup at park open and hustled but 1:20 was the earliest we could get! But we were happy he was able to do it at all. When we came back before the show to get ready there was a mom yelling at the cm as to why she couldn't they just let her child do it!!! They had a waiting list but I heard him tell her you have to come back before each showtime and his list had 40 alternates on it! So yeah go first thing!!!

Thanks to everyone for the information. I think my nephew would like to try to do it.

I'm confused though. Do you have to go there first thing in the morning to sign up for a time later in the day and they tell you when to come back? Does everyone who signs up get selected? Or do you just go early before each session? If you have to sign up, what's the point of all the tips on "being selected?"

Thanks for helping a newbie.

Disney World has a sign-up list and selects kids entirely differently. At Disneyland, kids are picked from the crowd by the Jedi Master, so you want to get there early for a front row position. There are lots of threads here on tips for getting selected, also in the creative section there are signs that you can hold up, which seem to help.

My son was 12 last year when he did it. My 10 year old was too scared!
Get there early, be enthusiastic, wear something Star Warsy. Shouldn't be a problem getting picked.

You must not have been at Disneyland. There is no sign up at DLR...you just go to the show, and they pick from the crowd.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion of DL vs WDW.

Is there a 'less crowded' show time?
